Hi Cara, to the best of my knowledge "wild rice" is not actually rice at all. If it's what I'm thinking of it is expensive, comes from Canada, and takes a long time to cook. It splits open on cooking to form a star and when mixed with other rices looks very attractive as it is almost black against the other colours. If you use it for yourself with other types of rice, start cooking it first before adding the other rice as it will be too hard to eat if it has the same shorter cooking time as the normal rice. I'm not sure if it's a recipe for you or your birds so can't really comment on the jasmine rice. The main difference would be cooking time. The other difference would be that jasmine rice is a white, polished rice so not so nutritious. (I use brown.) Not sure if this is helpful to you. Jaz

January 2, 200916 yr This is a recipe for budgies I found it as I was looking at the recipes FAQ section on this site okay, maybe I'd better have a look at the recipes FAQ. If you're online while I'm looking and can give me a clue where to look exactly that will help.

Just had a look. I don't think it would be a big issue to omit it from the recipe (it's a rather expensive ingredient). If you wanted to substitute normal rice I'd use brown - white might just turn into glue. However, I'd check first whether rice is an okay thing to feed birds anyway. I know that in the past I've sprouted barley, oats, wheat, triticale and other grains and the birds love it, but rice (even brown) won't sprout because it has had its outer husk removed so I've no idea how budgies react to rice in any form. Caution too - with human beings boiled rice is high risk for food poisoning.
