Posted December 31, 200816 yr well 2009 is almost here and i have been for some time now working out what i need to breed to achive my rezult for my stock line before i go trying to breed what i think is a perfict rainbow although that is a long way off these next pairs will play a major role in achiving this alot of you may think im barking up the wrong tree with my choises but i can ashure you i know where im at so follow me if you like on a long journey to breeding a rainbow from scratch .....im talking scratch i have spent the last two almost three years buying birds and test breeding them to find out their backgrounds (if not with a pedagree)and bred a few generations when ive found out what ive got thats needed sold off the original stock and kept the second genoration and sometimes the first if this makes no sence dont worry as i know what i mean most of you have only seen a majority of my birds as im really not to good at this and i tend to put up the same birds just ones i play around with , but for now on i am going to show you what im up to so ... enjoy be intreegd and if you have questions dont hesertaite to ask ... okay first a dominant pie cobolt opaline cock and a weird but nice colour spangle cinnimon hen mabe she is opaline okay i know their was a breeding box in their but i can garentee you all these birds have not been and will not be breed yet as they are to young i did not relize this untill i actually placed them in a breeding cage together she is only goimg on 9 months and he is only 7 months i dont breed my birds till they are just a month over a year although that was not always the way i did breed them smak on one year but now i wait an extra month why,,, cause i can,so this is going to be my first important pair ..next year around april i will box them again what are your thoughts

January 1, 200916 yr Gerneic blue - I love that second pair. I will follow this thread with great interest. In terms of what you are doing wrong when posting pics, after every picture, press enter, so start every picture on a new line. that will spread them out more and make them look better.

January 1, 200916 yr Author There is a limit ont he number of pics you can do. But if you do two posts under each other, we can merge them. tryed to do that last night day in a nother topic i did with pics my birds but goodness i ended up giving up it takes me for ever shannon bird breeder has his photo bucket linked (his alb) wish i could do that be so much easyer but then again i do want to nail this thing lol so.... i will persist
January 21, 200916 yr GB, are you breeding for Show or pretty birds? Your Opaline grey cock looks very nice and will complement the pairing with the hen you have chosen. The first pair look like they need to go through another moult to gauge their true potential. Good Luck! :parrot:
February 21, 200916 yr Author you are corect darl on your obsovations first pair do need to prim up lol and i dont show breed ...but i do with some birds follow strickt choises after all i want to produce nice birds for all diffrent perperses pets colour and yes some show paired stock but no i will never show my birds as been their and when i started breeding when i was very young i had alot of anel people back in the show rooms then just put me off i have a few good birds with show potential in their off spring that pair you mentioned fall just short of producing a good show type winner she is not up to par however grand dad is on cocks side and they just had a clutch four eggs four chicks all beautiful all healthy and i plan to back breed my best hen one most like dad but clearflighted to grandad who is skyblue/opaline pied this is pairs second clutch first clutch five chicks five eggs and four hens one cock all beautiful and becoming more stunning every month breeding second generation does not start till end this year october with first clutches hen i sold all others exept one cock and this time wont be selling any off them as i kick myself everytime i see the chicks i sold in verious avirys keeping all for eight months this time round grandad produced for me some lovley cocks to hen two last year same time as sons clutch was born and one has turned out to be very potentually worth while and /cinnimon pied so i am just dabbling with most my birds but my mauve line is well on its way and looking good from where i sit i brought a splat bird for this line and plan to keep in touch with splat to mabe talk about getting more with same bloodlines at latter date will post pics of clutch when poss as fires kind of changed my living arangments for while and clutch grew as we were away i go home tomorrow load birds in mornning i did keep pics comming so will do a journal best i can with dates of hatching and growing as promised although chicks got two weeks left in box
February 21, 200916 yr with the first pair - i can't see the opline in the cock and he appears to have spangle marking as well. biut nice pairs
February 24, 200916 yr Author with the first pair - i can't see the opline in the cock and he appears to have spangle marking as well. biut nice pairs yes he does have spangle markings he is defenently opaline reason i pared them he also holds violet heratage and no green history i know nothing about hen but she comes from a breeder that has mostly violet opaline spangles and her age im only hopeing to achive more opaline spangle pieds at moment i will add more colour genetics as the generations get on but i am just finding out hens background at moment in referance to weather she holds green genetics or only blue if she throughs any green chicks i will use her for a difrent line of coulour probbly my mauve greys other wize theiy the begining of my rainbows its going to be a long time in the makeing as i want to make sure all genetics go back to just blue grey mauve violet with the odd olive i dont want greens poping up anywhere ... i know what i mean lol i know that didnt make much sence lol its all good i have a long turm plain and a picture in mind
March 3, 200916 yr your hens are blue birds and will not give any green as blue is the recessive gene. green can't be carried (split)
March 3, 200916 yr How did i miss this  Love the second pair I cant wait to see what comes out of them
March 3, 200916 yr Author your hens are blue birds and will not give any green as blue is the recessive gene. green can't be carried (split) thats good im not sure how that works really but are you saying any bird i have that is either blue , violet, mauve or grey will never through green birds ? i am not sure what to say i thought that they could if the cock or hen was split green ? do you understand what im saying im not sure i do but i have a cobalt 1 factour violet spangle hen and paired her to what i thought was a dark grey green spangle and they have produced a what apears to be a normal dark green bird no mutation so.... got me this him him and her baby few days about 4 days baby is two weeks now so much bigger than this picture taken at one week i will post pics when can of it now not at home at moment (why i can actually be on the com , lol )
March 3, 200916 yr I thinks I knowa that hen A bird can be green split blue but can never be blue split green. Green is a dominant colour genetically so even if you only have one gene out of the two that is green the bird will look green, in order to be blue the bird needs to have two blue genes as blue is recessive to green. Hope that helps GB

Hope that helps GB yes your hen the chick is huge i called it sachie (short for big foot) out of five eggs one hatched he is just too big for her but thought i would try one better then none so if the chick has chicks to a blue bird i should only get blue is this so .. i was told that but still second opinion would be nice oh and if this is wrong ...then chick and cock both go ...he my first grey green breeding only ever had blue base stock dont want greens but thought grey greens would strenthen the violets and mauves mabe i anm wrong most probbly am my memorie is so bad lol
