Posted December 31, 200816 yr Well this morning I was checking on my two baby budgies, when I decided to hang them next to the aviary so they could get used to being in the vicinity of other birds. The next minute I look back at them and I see a small bird zoom straight past my face into one of our bushes! So I looked into the bushes to find one of the babies in there. Lucky. About ten minutes later I'm in my aviary, checking on Duke and Skipper, when I look back, I see the other budgie sitting on my mum's SHOULDER. I could not believe my eyes! Two extremely close calls within half an hour!
December 31, 200816 yr I guess you won't be letting them outside the aviary next time glad you got them both back
January 1, 200916 yr Author haha two of the cage bars were bent outward a little bit for some reason, and because they were tiny they could just fit straight through the bars i was so lucky to not have lost either of them!
January 1, 200916 yr It must be the season for it...my boy got out of his cage today as well (useful lesson to me, make sure the door isn't open half an inch as he can get out!). Luckily we were inside and the dog hadn't gotten out of bed yet otherwise I'd be crying!
January 1, 200916 yr  the bars of your cage must be really wide then! I don't think a baby old enough to fly could get out of a cage with standard sized bars that were bent. How scary that must have been and very lucky you got them!
January 1, 200916 yr My cousin had a budgie in a cage with standard bar spacing and some of the bars her slightly bent enough for him to get half his body out but he was a farly big budgie so he didn't get out Edited January 1, 200916 yr by KAZ
January 1, 200916 yr Author yeah i was so traumatised. they are only 5 weeks so they are quite small! my cage probably has larger bar width :S so i'll be putting them in the aviary with my other birds ASAP
