December 31, 200816 yr I feel they're pain... digging out that clay is a KILLER!!! Looking forward to seeing it all completed.
December 31, 200816 yr Author Well, They did it!! They are all stuffed, but managed to dig out the solid clay We still need to add some retaining to this The shed has been put in place to test its fit and see how it looks.... YAY!! finally its off that weird angle and looks more like a shed should
December 31, 200816 yr Author Next is retaining the rest of the wall at the back. then preping for the slab to be laid.
December 31, 200816 yr Is the retaining wall going to be on an angle going up the clay ? or is it going to be cut into the clay area and level like the rest of the wall ?
December 31, 200816 yr Author Is the retaining wall going to be on an angle going up the clay ? or is it going to be cut into the clay area and level like the rest of the wall ? We are going to leave the angle as thats the natural slope and it will be hidden by the shed, just need to prop it up so it doesn't erode.
March 21, 200916 yr Author There has been some major progress on the bird room The shed was moved from its old spot, to its new location so now it is finally square, rather than on a weird angle A fair bit of time passed after the shed moved.... but this weekend it all ramped up again as we got ready for the concrete slab. The earth was dug out and the shed lifted up 75mm to allow room for a thick slab without the concrete going up the sides of the tin Then the plastic was laid. not as easy as it looks as we had to lift the shed to get it underneath a bit of a mess, but all boarded up and edged ready for the concrete I thought this was adorable. Alex put his wheel burrow next to 007's ready for action When the truck arrived the kids went nuts. they they thought it was the best thing ever! Alex worked had delivering cement from the truck to my very clever father-in-law who is a jack of all trades. My father-in-law working hard laying the cement. He spent hours in the searing 35 degree heat to get the floor beautifully smooth In a day or so i just have to go in a clean the excess cement marks from the walls and it will look a treat. This week i am making a screen door and a window and hoping to be able to get the birds in there next weekend. YEAH for Progress!!! :bliss: 007 and my FIL deserve a big  :thankyou:  and for all their hard efforts this is still not over by the way, there is still lots to do, but now the concrete slab is laid, we can start to use it. Still got to lay more concrete for the aviaries, move the aviaries and build more flights etc etc in and around the birdroom, so there will be more progress later
March 21, 200916 yr Wow Liv!! Looking good. You are very lucky to have a great team of workers to give you a hand. I assume you will insulate the birdroom. I'm hoping to pick up my aviary in a few weeks (mid-April), can't wait! Then I can buy more birds!! I will probably come and see you for that if that's okay and if you will have any babies by then. But that will be some time yet. Look forward to more progress pics.
March 21, 200916 yr Author Thanks so much I forgot to add this picture. The front part just past the door where the edge dissapears and you can see the orange plastic, is where one of the flights will go so there will be a new slab put there Edited March 21, 200916 yr by **Liv**
March 21, 200916 yr Great Photos Liv - I love the LAST one where all the concrete looks FINISHED!!! Now onto the nursery flight... The inside door... The left hand window... Moving all the breeding cages... Putting in a wirly-gig thingy in the roof... Painting the outside... Insulating the inside... Putting in power for lights... Setting up the water outside the door to be able to wash it out... Moving the two other aviaries and doing more concreting... I bet you just can't wait
March 30, 200916 yr Author More progress happened though the weekend! I made a screen door with mouse proof mesh. Then we added 2 windows for cross breeze. The square window on the other side will eventually be a door that goes into the external flights It gets stacks of natural sunlight. I don't need the fluro light on all day any more. just 2 extra hours in the morning and evening. This is the setup i had before - The birds and i were a bit ---> :raincloud: as i could barely move in there and the cages down the bottom were wasted as there was no ventilation or light down there. To this... :budgiedance: :budgiedance: I still have to insulate before it gets cold, make proper stands for the cages, and i am currently making covers for the windows to keep out the rain and wind.
