My hubby (007) has so generously given up "his" garden shed to become our new birdroom :D

Its 3x3 meters and this is what it looks like.

Today we are getting in amongst the dust and spiders to empty all of the stuff (AKA useless JUNK!!) out of it.

Over the next weeks the shed will be moved

Garden will be dug away

Concrete slab laid

Large aviary moved to join the shed

etc etc. I will keep you updated on the progress - its a bigger job than it looks :P

donno - what ever it was, it WAS HUGE!!!! :P:

I soaked it with fly spay and it took a good 15 - 20 mins to finally drop out of the web!!

That big one was a red back Liv. Try not to use flyspray where birds will go. A.I.L. works for them too. :P

I don't think it was a red back. We have both black house spiders and red backs here. Red backs don't always have a red stripe but their webs are usually alot thicker than that. Better to be sure though and get rid of it.

So how would you recommend getting rid of spiders where budgies will go Kas?

wasnt a red back , a house spider ralitivly harmless yet bloody ugly red backs are pea shape body with thin legs the females are black only hence the name black widdow red backs have dirty webbs as they do not clean then and they have i kind of thick hole kie webby bit they sit in untill pray comes spiders can also hold their breath up yo 8 hours so drowinding them does not down a drain pipe they just crawl out hot water is the only method in a sink and a big shoe for out doors is best

i get rid of my spiders by desturbing their webbs spiders die from stress if their webb is constently desturbed or they move on

We are stuffed after a busy day.

Tomorrow the retaining wall is being removed and the shed moved into its new position.

Looking forward to this thread!!! I love watching peoples aviaries get built! So many good ideas!

Very cool Liv.... it's funny that once he got involved in 'the hobby' the shed became a breeding room!!! lol.... and that spider!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HUGE!!!

I can't wait to follow this thread too... lets me dream.

Let me start by saying that I only learnt that I was losing my shed when we flew to WA to meet KAZ. It wasn't really anything other than a... You don't want that dusty old shed of yours do you, blink blink of the eyes, sweet smile...

Um, no... It's... ummm... yours I said with a smile back (thinking what have I done - where is my shed????)

But seriously, it's only a shed and it is a perfect size for a breeding room and now we have ideas about adding all sorts of things next to it, flight pens, cull pens, retirement pens. budgie condos.... Anything to make her happy! Life's too short for anything else.

Ha Ha...

NOPE!! Liv helped ALL day, she helped empty the shed, stacked boxes, sprayed (and hunted out) spiders ... and took photos, she then starting removing the pavers from the floor and stacking them up in groups of five in the shed and then put a group of five in each hand and went off and built a pile outside... me I could barely manage just four and I dawdled off behind her feeling very un-manlike... (thinking about demoting myself to 003 after that)

She is very eager to get the bird room done by March and is more than pulling her wieght and then some :D

(thinking about joining a gym)

My father in-law and brother in-law have come over to help with the shed move

The removal of the retaining wall - too easy with 3 strong men.

P1000984.jpg

P1000986.jpg

They removed the top soil with ease, but then they hit CLAY!!!! Oh boy! It was like trying to smash though bricks

P1000987.jpg

They are still at it... more updates to come.
