Posted December 27, 200816 yr THought i would find out what everyone here is trying to breed? Obviously those who show are trying to breed the best possible bird for the show table. What type of variety are you trying to specialise in? Im trying to breed dominant pieds mainly, but have a few pairs of spangle dominant pieds, spangles. All of my dominant pieds are with a normal so i shall get nice normals along the way too. Would be interested to see what everyone else is trying to breed. Also how many breeding cabinets are you running, and how many birds are you aiming to breed in 09?
December 27, 200816 yr I have only 8 cages going at the moment. I breed a line of pet types (mainly cresteds now) just to help with the seed money and also breed spangle and crested show types. I haven't got much of a base for my show types yet so I'm breeding mainly normals this year and buying in spangles and cresteds to form my first few pairs to get my stock for next year. I'll be thrilled if I can get about 25 show babies over the next few months to hold over till next year.
December 27, 200816 yr I currently have 2 birds that I am breeding with MB... I won't be doing much breeding next year... maybe get 1 or 2 more pairs.... The pairs I have with MB are: Green Cinnamon Opaline Cock x Green series Lacewing Green Normal x Green spangle. I am not really looking for anything in particular... I love lacewings, but really I want a nice combination of everything at this stage
December 27, 200816 yr I am trying to breed a few more birds then I will join a club and get my own rings. Then hopefully one day I will be able to show for myself, I like spangles and yf's the best.
December 27, 200816 yr I breed mostly pet type birds and expect to have about 35 pairs next season. Among them are 4 pairs of show type but I don't show them. Most mutations are represented and I combine them to produce a lot of variety. Opaline spangles are always in high demand so there are plenty of them. Normals are a minority
December 27, 200816 yr I am starting out, much like you Budgiebuyer09, so I am at the stage where I am more interested in producing some quality birds compared to different types. I think once you establish a good looking bird, then you can worry about colour, or spangles, or even pieds. That is just my take.
December 28, 200816 yr I am still not focusing on any particular variety as I am aimimg for nice type but I mainly have spangles, this year I was trying to breed good Dark green and light green normals and sky blue normal, Out of over a hundred birds that I have bred I have 2 dark green cocks and 1 sky blue hen but they will be my stock birds. Next year I will aim for the same. I will have 20 breeding cages going after March.

Finished for the year plus it is too hot for them now, I will start again at the end of March 2009. Everytime I put a yellow face with a pied or spangle the yellow bleeds so I now avoid it, I am trying to breed good yellow face normals because I have more chance of winning in that class, than if I put in a pied or spangle yellow face because they say their no place on the show bench for bleeding through the wings. I do have some really top normal violet cocks one looks like a champ. I don't have any pics of my sey up on hand but it is small and basic compared to most breeders but it is great for me and it suits me.
December 28, 200816 yr this is my basic set up Cages have fronts off as I have finished breeding This is 2 holding or kiny cages and I have my training show boxes on top, I have this setup on the opposit side also in all I have 14 training show cages to train my birds. The colour material is covers I made my boxes to keep them clean when I am not using them.
