i was wondering if u could breed a show type budgie with a pet type

and could any one show me the nesting boxes they require :chickendance:

yes you can and the normal budgie nest box type is all that is required...

 

Show type and pet type are exactly the same animal, just different size... their babies will be in between pet and show type birds... if you're a show breeder then I wouldn't recommend it as you will lose to much size...

 

Are you looking at getting into show breeding? Or do you want to introduce a new type to your show birds?

From what I can tell in showing colour isn't the biggest priority... what's more important is the quality of the bird in respects to its mutation... If I was planning on getting into show budgies I wouldn't breed with pet types... I would buy 3 cocks and 3 hens of good standard and then pair them up...

 

When purchasing I would take into consideration what I wanted to show... recessive pieds, spangles, TCB's... whatever you prefer that should be taken into consideration when purchasing. If you talk to show breeders near you they will be able to help you out as you look at their culls. You will want to know as much about the genetics of the birds that you purchase as possible...

Have to agree with Jummybanks. If you want to get into show type birds you dont use a pet type in the breeding of them. You will be going backwards. Depending on the size of the birds too, you may need a bigger nestbox.

Yes you can mix show types with pet types - they make lovely babies. i really love the blends

 

If you want to breed show budgies it would be best not to blend show and pet types together as it reduces the structrual features of the offspring.

I use blends to make pets for people and as fosters for my show budgies as they often make better parents than the show budgies.

 

show budgies are a lot bigger than pet budgies so you need a bigger box - blends will be okay in a normal box.

but what if this pet budgie is really big could i still get big babies?

well I looked at your profile and couldn't see your bird but no matter how big the bird is you will still have smaller birds if you pair with a pet type... If you are expecting a great show type then that won't happen, if you want a nice pet bird it will work
