December 24, 200816 yr If they look sort of grass colour they are green... okay pictures would help me to.
December 24, 200816 yr I did an FAQ on these Liv, check under mutations okay. If that is not what you wanted let us know.
December 28, 200816 yr So after reading that do you think the new normal green chick is a dark green single dark factor?? Edited December 28, 200816 yr by Hills
December 28, 200816 yr Author The baby above has a Mum who is a light green and dad who is a violet....
December 28, 200816 yr Confusing... light green and dark green look fairly similar to me. I don't know which one all my green birds were... it just seems like the spangles were lighter than the normals! And if there is light green, dark green and olive.... then what is greygreen?
December 28, 200816 yr Grey green is where the grey factor is added to the green factor isnt it? so If a grey male was mated to a light green hen I think that is how you get grey green babies.
December 28, 200816 yr so is there a difference between grey light greens and grey olive greens? Or would they look the same???? Now I'm confused... I agree I find it really hard to tell the difference between light green and dark green, I think light green is more fluorescent if that makes sense?
December 28, 200816 yr From the FAQ Section: How can I tell the difference between an Olive (bird with 2 dark factors) vs a GreyGreen (a green series bird with the added factor grey)? Olives have dark blue/purple cheek patches and black-blue tails. Olive is a bird with 2 ark factors. Dark factors are inherited from the parents based on how many dark factors they are carrying. Grey-greens have silver grey patches and black tails. Grey-green is when a green bird inherits a grey gene from it's For the question about this chick: If the mom is a sky and the dad is a cobalt (violet is only visual on them) then that would mean that 50% would be 1 dark factor and 50% would be 0 dark factors (light green or sky). You also have the possibility of 50% single factor violets if the cock is a single factor violet or if the cock is a double factor violet all the chicks would carry the violet gene. What were the other chicks in the nest? The green on this bird looks like a dark green but it could be a green carrying the violet gene also making it look darker? Maybe RIPbudgie or Neville, will have more insight on the bird.
December 28, 200816 yr There is an excellent site that I have looked at that explains colour mutations. http://www.budgieplace.com/colorsguide.html For the Greens Light Green No dark factor in a green (yellow-based) budgie relults in the classic light green variety. Dark Green One dark factor in a green (yellow-based) budgie relults in the dark green variety. Olive Green Two dark factors in a green (yellow-based) budgie relults in the olive variety. Grey Green Grey factor in a normal yellow-based budgie results in the grey-green variety.
December 28, 200816 yr I get the difference between olive green and grey green but what I'm wondering is, is there a difference between a Grey light green and a grey olive green visually??
December 28, 200816 yr Yes, it is all due to the number of dark factors. For example, you can have two grey birds and one can be darker than the other, as it is due to having 2 dark factors. An olive green has 2 dark factors, so a greygreen from an olive parent may look visually darker due to dark factors when compared to a greygreen from a light green parent.
