Buying And Selling

Just wondering how many birds everyone plans on getting rid of this year and how many you plan on buying. I noticed in another thread budgiebuyer has bought 40 pairs and that seems like a lot to buy. then there are others that are culling a lot (this coming from a guy with 2 budgies) for example I noticed Daz is planning on culling 100 birds before next season. So these are my questions:

How many Birds are you planning to Cull this year?

How many Birds are you planing to buy?

What is the biggest cull you've ever done?

When you cull large amounts do you also purchase big?

Do you have a set number of birds you buy each year no matter how many birds you cull?

Do you mean this year or next year Jimmy?

How many Birds are you planning to Cull this year?

None, I dont have enough birds to sell yet

How many Birds are you planing to buy?

A fair few show pairs.

What is the biggest cull you've ever done?

The most birds I've ever sold at one time is 2 :P

I know you probably want a professional show breeder to post here but I thought I would post anyway. I only have 39 budgies. Increasing slowly. :D

Only 39 eh!? Im only planning on keeping about 10!

:P its okay pearce, I'm after everyone's input :D both newer breeders and ones that have been involved for a while...

At this stage I am hoping to keep all my show babies and also a selection of pet types. In the case of the pet types I will breed for the pet market, selling almost all the babies (keeping a select few each year for future breeding) to assist with the costs of maintaining my flock in the initial years of starting out. In the first few years I'll keep all show babies until their potential becomes clear and then cull any which are totally unsuitable. I hope to have a base flock of about 100 birds eventually

I want to get one more male budgie. I hope they don't breed!

Although that said I have been thinking about getting an aviary and stocking it with nothing but bush budgies. I don't have approval from the fun police at this stage though. in fact she has only just agreed to a second male pet budgie, so I won't push it. :D

That is also something I am very interested in as well. The fun Police are everywhere nowadays... And they always seem to be young female constables ^_^

Plan on culling down to having about 60 birds and at the moment I have about 90 and have already culled about 60 young and old.

I don't plan on buying any next year but if a good pied came along I would buy it and I am after an Alan Rowe hen and a Ray Wilson hen.

I dont plan culling by numbers at all. The thing is we can have a large number of birds where I live and have no council restrictions. So keeping within limits doesnt come into it.

Right now I cull harder than last year and next year I will cull harder than this year and so on until I get the birds looking the way I want them to be.

Hey Splat I've got my hand in the air for when you cull spangles and normals :D

Got my hand up for yours too Kaz but that's a bit harder to organise :D

I"ll be culling at lest 80 - 90 in the next few months. I would like ti get down to only 50 birds before May.

If you are starting out. you should only get 3 pair of good quality birds. Any more is really not required.

Would you get 3 pair from the same breeders or would you have 3 different lines Daz?
