Posted December 20, 200816 yr I got a Show cage kit from Kaz while i was in WA and i have just started putting it together. How am i doing so far?? I am so paranoid about it - i don't want to get a marked cage next is painting, putting perches in and adding the cage front
December 20, 200816 yr Looks good Liv, the hardest part is painting, I have made 11 kits up and have five more in a box, I am sooooo sick of it. Which I could send them back and get the finished product. BUT sorry didn't mean to sound grim, my first 8 were fun but it's just that I have no time now so it has become a pain. Kaz is right make sure you sand down well so it turns out nice and smooth, good luck
December 20, 200816 yr fine sand paper Liv that would scratches easy :thankyou: actually I use a sander on mine before I make them up and then again ater but of coarse can't use the sander inside the cage but you can on the outside. Edited December 20, 200816 yr by splat
December 20, 200816 yr looking good Liv. I never realised show cages have a tilted roof... learn something new everyday on this forum :thankyou:
December 20, 200816 yr Author Yeah, and that tilted roof is a real pain in the backside to install too :thankyou:
December 20, 200816 yr :thankyou: I bet it is. I wam thinking about making a cage while my birds are away and was going to make the floor a tilted bottom so that it was easy for everything to fall to the front... Thought about it and then put it in the to hard basket....

December 20, 200816 yr Liv, I can't talk on how you are doin as I don't know what to look for in specifics of making a good breeding box. To me it looks wonderful
December 20, 200816 yr Very good Liv. .... Where is the tear drop latch? Should be one top right of the door next to the hing. Show us a photo when done, please.
December 20, 200816 yr Very good Liv. .... Where is the tear drop latch? Should be one top right of the door next to the hing. Show us a photo when done, please. There optional safety catches Daz, but I bought 20 to put on my cages. Haven't done it yet though
December 21, 200816 yr Not a good photo but there is a required catch to the right of the hing. The kits we buy didnt come with those so Liv with need to source one from the hardware store.
December 21, 200816 yr Kaz we order ours off the supplier of the kits. They are available at any good hardware or wood craft store. As we dont deal direct with the supplier of the kits ours didnt come with them.
December 21, 200816 yr whats it for? just as a backup incase the other clip comes open? Yes...its a safety catch. As the other catch has a projection it can be knocked and opened by bumping against other show cages. The teardrop catch is flatter and less inclined to open...gravity holds the teardrop catch shut. December 21, 200816 yr ....and it can be a pain when you are trying to get the bird in and out of the cage as it does it's job well.
December 21, 200816 yr Author Thanks all I will make sure to get the tear drop latch. I haven't done any more of it at the moment as we are getting busy here with Christmas stuff should get time tomorrow to whip out the sander and get it all smooth and ready for a coat of the internal white paint
January 12, 200916 yr Author Its all but done. It has been a real fiddly headache to paint. Still to add is the perches, drinker and the little safety latch on the door. i don't know how people dont go nuts when they make many of them - i guess it gets easier with practice
January 13, 200916 yr Author I forgot to add. What colour do i pain the edges of the door opening and door???? At the moment i have them as a mix of black and white hehe
