I have a few birds in my avairy that have legrings. From my understaning the BCV(Budgie Council of Victoria) rings can be like this "BCV )6 0001". But I have also seen them different with more letters printed after the "BCV", and also seen rings without BCV. I know every 6 years the colour of the ring changes with the year and a symbol printed but I am still a bit confused.

Can anyone explain how to read these? Also can you tell who the breeder is by the legring? Is there a way to contact them without being a member of a club?

I rang the club initialled on one of my budgies legrings and they put me onto the breeder.

Is there a list of codes somewhere stating what the club name is?

Thanks maesie, I have a hen with "BCV JM2 X8 093", and a recent purchase with "BCV AR4 X8 045".

 

The reason for wanting to know the breeder, is that I purchased a couple of birds at the same time from the same place and wanted to know if they were related for breeding purposes. The other birds I purchased don't have club codes, but that probably doesn't necessarily mean that it wasn't from the same breeder, (I guess).

BCV JM2 X8 093 Budgerigar Council of Victoria ( BCV ) JM2 is your breeders code..... X8 means 2008 hatched...... 093 is the birds number

 

BCV AR4 X8 045 same as above BCV AR4 is the breeders code ( so different breeder ) X8 is 2008 hatching and number 045

I guess if you were trying to contact the breeder you would have to call the BCV, although if their is a good chance it came from a certain club (if there is only really one in the area) then you could try them first and ask the secretary

thats a pity... It seems UK breeders love saying what their code is.. just do a google search and they'll pop up but for some reason they are secretive here... ahhh well... maybe one day.

Probably depends how well known the breeder is too, some breeders ring codes are very well known

There may be a Ring Register at the BCV. I'm the Ring Registrar for South Queensland. I have every code for all the breeders in south queensalnd. BCV might be the same.

I, also am a ring registrar and I have a master list of all Western Australian codes.

Yeah! We found one! Went shopping with a friend yesterday and she picked up a budgie with the same breeder code. I'll contact the Sale club to get his number. Thanks heaps!
