Posted December 14, 200816 yr Hi everyone I'm back! And just got Cosmo back from my parents. They looked after him well and he was no trouble at all, seemed to cope very well with moving back and forward. Thing is, I just noticed his cere is flaking just a tiny bit. Just looks a bit dry... nothing massive. In my vague memory I'm sure I've seen budgies ceres like that before not get treated and never amount to anything. Is this automatically scaly face, or is there a time when ceres flake a bit and it's nothing? What should I do about it? I know there is tons of information on this website about scaly face but honestly I am too exhausted to look it up right now. Should I apply oil, or is there something i should buy instead? Thanks
December 14, 200816 yr Welcome Back. Glad your bird is doing well for the most part. Maybe put a photo up at some point of the cere and that will let people know if it is scaley face... I have heard of dropping oil on but can't remember what type of oil it was.. Edited December 14, 200816 yr by maesie Changed WB to welcome back...
December 14, 200816 yr A picture when you can please. Nothing to panic about....give yourself time to settle back home...post a picture and we can advise fron there
December 15, 200816 yr Author Thanks... here are the photos.. hard to get something so close up without flash!
December 15, 200816 yr Doesnt look too bad....dont think its scalyface. Could just be change of environment and weather conditions, BUT wouldnt hurt to wipe some oil over the cere and beak, watching you miss the nostrils Edited December 15, 200816 yr by KAZ
December 15, 200816 yr Author Thanks! I will try that, at least it will moisturise it if nothing else...is just normal cooking oil or olive oil alright?
December 16, 200816 yr Author Hmm you know what Kaz... your thread about "what is moulting" http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....ic=22897&hl= has quite a few birds with similar looking ceres. Cosmo is moulting... .maybe it's related?

Definitely could be related....the fact is moulting time is a time where their condition is very poor and Cosmo has had his "holiday" and may have had food changes which also can force a moult.
