Posted December 12, 200816 yr Hi All, I'm new here welcome...Thankyou!!! I have a new couple of pieds to breed.. I have breed budgies years ago in a aviary. Before I just had normal cobalts, albinos, etc.. I never had any pieds which I want to breed only!! My question is what colour babies will I get out of A recessive pied green and yellow Male and DF pied white and blue FeMale??? Also I have never paired any in the past... they found their own mate in the aviary I used to have.. Just Wondering is there a chance they won't fancy each...They've been paired for a week no interest yet at all...Maybe more time yeah... Any suggestions would be well recieved.. Cheers DNOW
December 12, 200816 yr You will get green and yellow Unless : The cock is split to blue ... They will all be Dom pied unless the Hen is split recessive .. That is about it for me more genetic experienced members will answer that one for you .. But G'Day and Welcome ... With the Pairing ... Give them 3 weeks after that change pairs or ... given them a break from one another and try again in a weeks time Edited December 12, 200816 yr by Neat added paring info

Cheers DNOW Hi Dnow, I'm new here too... WELCOME Firstly, if you breed a green bird with a blue bird, unless the green bird is split for blue, you will always get green babies. Secondly, it would be good to get pictures of the pair to properly identify them. I'm not sure what you mean by DF pied. If you are talking about double factor pied, you are probably meaning double factor dominant pied, since a recessive pied by nature needs two recessive genes to show as a recessive pied budgie. If thats the case...... you will most likely not produce recessive pied babies, unless the dominent pied female is also carrying the recessive gene. (Which dom pieds can do). You will most likely get 100% green dominant pieds which will be split for recessive pied. But thats if my assumptions are correct. Best to post photos to be sure. Hope this helped. Kazzy
December 12, 200816 yr Author Hi,Thanks for that guys!!!I have been trying to upload some pictures of my couple but, don't know how to do it yet, I just signed up for photobucket so should figure it out soon I hope.. ThanksHere are the pictures of my pair in question... Edited December 12, 200816 yr by **Liv** fixed image codes
December 12, 200816 yr There is a "code" under the images in photo bucket it is the one with Copy and paste that code in .... Also remember to keep them sized no larger then 640 x 480 .. In my signature there is a link on how to ... it will have it all in there for you ... Looking forward to the pics
December 12, 200816 yr Hi Nowbudgie, I had problems with inserting pictures earlier today. It looks the same as I did. I was clicking the icon to insert the picture, but you don't need to click that button. Just insert the link into the body of the post. Cheers Kazzy Edited December 12, 200816 yr by Kazzy

December 12, 200816 yr Does either of the birds have iris rings? Do you know how old they are? If they don't have iris rings.... then both of them are recessive pied. You'll get recessive pied babies from them. Cheers Kazzy

Female does have iris, but vey large almost all black..
December 12, 200816 yr Yes that is normal for a recessive pied ... Your images were to large there is an edit function on photo bucket before you pick what photo you want to upload there is a selection on what size you would like them to be chooses the 640*480 option .... If not if you click on your image and click edit there is a resize option that you can use which is the same ... They both look recessive pied But i get them and the DF dom pieds confused often
December 12, 200816 yr If there is a visible iris ring in either eye that is not a recessive pied (they don't have visible iris rings ever) it would be a dominant pied to me they look like Clearflight Dominant Pieds.
December 12, 200816 yr Is it possible to get a full back view picture of the green bird. Neither of them look like recessive pieds to me
December 12, 200816 yr I agree. They do look like dominant pieds. They seem to have clear patches on the back of their heads. Edited December 12, 200816 yr by Kazzy
December 12, 200816 yr They are both dominant pieds. If one has an iris ring in one eye and not the other chances are high that its a DF dom pied.
December 13, 200816 yr Author Is it possible to get a full back view picture of the green bird. Neither of them look like recessive pieds to me The back of my green and yellow as asked NEVILLE not to good shot!!! Thanks
December 13, 200816 yr very cute. :laughter: I'm no good at genetics though so I can't help you with the outcomes...
December 13, 200816 yr They are both dominant pieds. If they are both single factor you will get 50% single factor dominant pieds, 25% double factor dom pieds and 25% normals. If one is double factor and the other is single factor you will get 50% double factor and 50% single factor. The chicks will be all green based unless the cock is split for blue. If the birds are split for other mutations you could get some surprises, possibly combined with the pied
