Egg Bound Bird .. First One Ever

Featured Replies

Posted

so three days ago i removed my cock bird from his mate as they were going to lay a third clutch in a row something i dont like to let happen

my hen has cottened on to this though and starts laying while chicks still not fully featherd

so i removed eggs dad and left her with a lazy old boy for companionship

she had an egg forming the day i did this and due to lay it next day

however the egg did not arive as fist i thought nothing of this but keeped a close eye

next morn still no egg but still not destresed egg was formed so i let her go and cheacked her every half hour

that night when she still had not layed i decided to check again where the egg was at she was eatting flying and still not destresed

at first light this morn i decided destressed or not something needed to be done so i looked at the situation and saw that the egg had by now turnd sideways

not sure of what to do and no acses to com to look up i remembered the warm water thing

knowing that steam soffens things up i placed my girl over a hot bowl of water and covered her vent area with a tea towle she was now becoming nerves and as my birds are usto me and being handled i decided that mabe she would like a nice bath

now you can call me crazzzy or what ever but i decided to reflect apon my own labour and decided to make her a warm bath i am into herbs and remidys and decided that to relax her so i could work through this with her talking and letting her know what was happening i placed a quarter drop of pure pepermint and the same amount of lavender flower (the tip of ) and let it sit a few seconds before lowering her gentally in

now call me mad but she seemed to kind of look relive as soon as the warm water wraped around her like a blanket and i swear i saw a smile in her before worryed look

with out a effort at all not even 5 minits latter she lay her egg into the warm bath

now thats to me is a freak out i dryed her off and with out a worry she happily went back to friend the lazy boy for my first egg bound bird i think although mabe over board i did well love to hear your binding storys love (midwife/genericblue) :D

I've actually read that way before so your not the only crazzzy one out there! :D It doesn't matter how you do it as long as it gets done and everyone is happy. Great job and thanks for sharing :D

I so love how you told your story. It is with so much love and caring. I am really glad your girl passed her egg with your wonderful help, it doesnt turn out so well for a lot of egg bound hens.

Well done and thank you for sharing :D

I am a believer in 'natural' remedies as a first course, and I love it that you used peppermint and lavender in the water. They are both wonderful herbs for de-stressing and relaxing. That with the steam I am sure helped her to pass the egg. What a wonderful story, thank you for sharing!

Not Crazy or Mad mate .... Just love your pets ...

I too loved the way to told us how you did things, it was like i was there .... I am into natural remedies I am sure most of you all know that :D ....

I am glad that you made her calm and what great thinking rather then stressing her you calmed her .. Something alot of pet owners do do ...

Hats off mate Well done ... :thumbs-up:

Thanks for sharing... and it would be quite possible she has another egg. Do you have any calcium? You can pop a drop on her beak... this will help her pass anymore with no trouble. And feed her plenty of fresh calcium rich foods.

The bath for her sounds lovely... my only concern would be putting her in the water WITH the oils... If it were me, I'd use just plain warm water to sit her in... as I'd hate for the oils to react to her or cause further problems. You could still have some in another small bowl beside her, but I personally wouldn't sit her in it... Purely my opinion... not sure if it's worth worrying about though.

I love natural remedies too... much better then poisons! If you've done it before and had no issues... it must be fine :laughter: ... Good luck and I hope she passes any further eggs with out problems.
