well one of my friends, hannah breeds many bird and opaline red rump is one of them. she wanted to know is i wanted 6 of them to start breeding them. but i really dont know whether i should or not . does any one know the possitives and negatives about them>?

she is offering them for free as well so i dont know ?

They can be aggresive during the breeding season so I wouldn't house them with budgies :laughter:

I do know someone who was wanting some though so let me know if you decide not to get them as I may know someone interested :D

either way you couldn't put them with the budgies confidently. Regardless of whether they have nest boxes they still get hormonal in breeding season and MAY be aggresive to other birds.

i wonder would i need a licence. also not housing them with budgies could work as she ahs a avery she is giving away as well. ( i have decided i am very lucky getting all these things for free! first the massive avery, now the opaline red rumps and now another avery .... i wonder what next?

yay ! so is it worth doing. is it going to end up costing me a large fortune lol i hate it when i get something free and it ends up costing a fortune to fix it... i know they would have the usual expences but is there anything other to expect? heyy and mb...YOU ARE A LEGEND! you are usually the first one to answer post and in this case the only one. you are also supportive to others your like the mum of this site if it wasnt for you and a few others i think this site would fall apart!

I have heard that red rumps cant be colony bred, they need separate aviaries/cages for each pair. I am happy to be corrected on this, but this is the main reason I havent gotten into rumps myself.

hmm maybie its not a good idea i think i will just stick to budgies and cockateils?

but if anyone is interested in the red rumps just tell me and ill get hannah to set you a cheap price! she has alexandra parrots, i htink thats what they are? or they are conjors? i dont know ill find out what breeds she has

I know that Angelic Vampyres cousin (?) was looking for an opaline one, I can't remember if it was a cock or a hen he wanted as it was to be a mate for one he already had. Maybe PM her and see if he is still needing one

Let me know what she wants for them :D

I think MB was the only one to reply because she was the first. Everyone else would be repeating what she said! lol.

Alexanderines and Conures are very different birds...

Alex's are large mostly green birds with large red beaks (males have a black ring around their neck), and a red patch on each wing.

Conures come in many species and styles. Ranging from a sunset yellow and orange colour to green, and some with black heads!

If I were you... I'd stick to Budgies... you are only young and plenty of time for other species later on... Stick to one first, get the hang of them and then see how you go. Breeding takes time, and with school etc, you'd be better off focusing on them at that stage... My opinion only. The choice is yours in the end.

Maes I would have to agree totally with what you have said ...... Best to stick with what you have and then explore a little later down the track ...

P.S please keep in mind the off topic RULES Topics regarding health and support etc. of other animals besides budgies will be removed. However, feel free to post about your other pets with images etc.

I am aware that This is a discussion about the thought of getting another breed of bird but bare in mind if it goes into fuller details ...... :hap: Just a friendly reminder everyone :D
