Posted December 9, 200816 yr I've looked in many other topics but I couldn't find any that completely fitted my question in it's context so I thought i'd start a new one. I have a 8-9 week old male budgie that I've had for 10 days. He's already quite tame and will sit on my shoulder when I walk about. I really want to get another male budgie but I'm afraid that if I do, both birds will become wild in behaviour because they'll be able to hear each other although in different rooms! Can I possibly tame up the other one and keep my current one tame in that situation? I want to introduce them when they're both tame. I plan to get the other one from the same breeder. Also, the second male budgie I want to get will be about the same age, so a chick in other words. Edited December 9, 200816 yr by wei
December 9, 200816 yr In my opinion you are better to wait a couple of months before getting the other one.
December 9, 200816 yr Great question, I'm going to keep my eye on this thread. This is what I was told along the same lines: Similar thread Edited December 9, 200816 yr by Hills
February 2, 200916 yr I have a similar situation. The budgie I have is tame and I have had him for about 1 year, he wasn't handreared but we worked really hard with him and now he is great! I really would like to get another budgie and house them together. I have been told it is better to get a handreared bird and they should be fine. the budgie I already have loves spending time out of his cage with me and I really want both of them to be tame and to enjoy being with me. Is it possible to have 2 tame birds housed together?? Or will they just stay together??
February 4, 200916 yr It is best to tame one first and wait until your first budgie is tamed before getting another one. Once you get another budgie, while it is quarantine you can tame it. After the quarantine is over and you feel that the secound budgie is tamed and is bonded to you. Then you can introduce them. Handle them everyday and they will stay tamed. February 4, 200916 yr I agree with everyone's advice, you will also find that the first one will probably always be more tamer then the 2nd one because you spent so much time with it vs just 30 days with the new one while he/she is in quarantine. I found this to be true with my 2 birds, I also found that Pretty did stop talking when we got Merlin. It was still a really good mix and I believe having 2 is so much fun you just have to realize you won't be center stage anymore.
