December 8, 200816 yr So these are the ones I liked from the Chrissy Raffle?? Wow I've done well!!! Now that I know that I'll send them tonight express post.
December 8, 200816 yr MB pippi has uncoded rings you don't need coded rings to show you just need rings through the club and to be a member of a club.
December 14, 200816 yr Not long to go now... almost 24 hours to go... there is a chirping of expectation currently in the JimmyBanks Budgie camp... Lip and Len know that they are going and have been told to be on their best behaviour...
December 14, 200816 yr Author Hey JB, are there particular mutations you are hoping for from these two? I'm just thinking along the lines that if we know you are after one thing and I am after another we could probably try and divide babies up in such a way that suits us both. I know you are after lacewing in the future which I'm not that fussed over so I would be happy for you to have all the cocks from the lacewing pairing for example as they will all be split lacewings. Personally my preference is for spangles and normals but not worried which sex(as that isn't sex linked). I think it would still be good obviously for both of us to have some chicks from each clutch but if we can do it in such a way that it works out better for our future breeding plans then that would be great too
December 14, 200816 yr so this is why jimmy wont have his birds ...?you guys will get lovley bubbys be sure to show us all please up to dateby way i dont keep many of my hens so depending what your after i have spangles and dom clear flights not show standed but really i dont know anything about that..no chicks now but will have so beauties next season but tell you who will have fantastic bubs soon and worth putting in a order nowspecially for your lace wing line
December 14, 200816 yr Author Thanks GenericBlue, but I'm only getting show birds now. I still have some pet types which I breed and I do keep the odd baby from them but I have to resist the urge to get more as I need the space for my show birds now I like to have somepet types as they are less prone to problems when breeding so they make good foster parents if there are problems Edited December 20, 200816 yr by **Liv**
December 14, 200816 yr I was thinking the same thing as you MB... I think we should each get some from each clutch but split it in such a way that it helps us both out. If I am lucky enough to get cocks out of the lacewing/opaline pair that would be a bonus. Like I said in a previous post, I'm just stoked that they are going to be breeding.
December 14, 200816 yr Author The best thing is it will be easy to tell before I put rings one, from the lacewing pair all hens will be opaline so they will have white fluff, all the cocks will have grey fluff so we'll know very early on if we have a nice even split there From the other clutch we can expect all normals and spangles so we can just see how it goes there. Will be interesting to see if we get any ring in mutations
December 14, 200816 yr will you be able to tell which ones are spangles and which ones are normals by the time you ring them? If not I really don't mind you putting your rings on, I won't be showing for a while, if ever, yet. Its up to you. You're the senior breeder here
December 14, 200816 yr Author No probably not but what I can do is just put uncoded rings on all of those and then it won't matter which ones each of us decide to have in the end as either of us would be able to show them
December 14, 200816 yr okay. Its your call...  And sailorwolf I'll note their feet colour for you too  Oh and is it possible my lacewing could be opaline as well? I have no idea about markings so I don't know what pattern her wings have at the moment... maybe you'll be able to tell when you see her... i dunno. You know me and genetics don't get along... December 14, 200816 yr Author I have a feeling that may be the case so if that happens we;'ll just use the uncodeds
December 15, 200816 yr Author The girls are here!!! They have quarantine for a few weeks yet and then they will get to meet the new men in their lives. Â Â Any tips for getting them in breeding condition? Both of them are very out of condition, should they naturally come in when they meet the boys?
December 15, 200816 yr By being "very out of condition" you have answered your own question. They need to be brought into peak condition. That can be acchieved with a decent amount of time in quarantine, adjusting to your food and conditions, allowing for the hot weather to pass, and then when in peak condition, put them down to breed. Although there is some excitement over the joint breeding, shortcutting time for these things might mean a loss or illness that neither owner of birds would like to experience
December 15, 200816 yr Author Wasn't trying to rush them just wondering whether it was something that would naturally happen when they were put in with the cocks that all. All my hens are in condition so I haven't had the task of actually trying to bring a hen into condition. They can hear the other birds from where they are on quarantine and have been talking a little will that help or is it purely a physical thing rather than a mental thing bringing them into condition?
December 15, 200816 yr Some hens will come into condition within a week of being with a cock. BUT in those cases its just where the cere is a little off colour and the rest of the bird shows good condition. You said very out of condition, so unless they are showing vigour and vitality, glossy feathers, and all the other signs that they can be there through the long haul, take the time to build them up with all that you have and all that you know  Edited December 15, 200816 yr by KAZ
December 15, 200816 yr Author No no, sorry I explained badly, their body condition is excellent but they are out of breeding condition, one has the white/blue cere going on the other is just slightly brown (maybe just coming in?)
December 15, 200816 yr No no, sorry I explained badly, their body condition is excellent but they are out of breeding condition, one has the white/blue cere going on the other is just slightly brown (maybe just coming in?) The white blue one is too far off ready but may be at the end of quarantine. The other sounds about ready. Â Also, some hens never seem to have the right cere colour but go on to breed sucessfully. December 15, 200816 yr Author At any rate we shall see how close they look at the end of their time inside with me and then we shall see whether they come in when they go into the cages.
December 15, 200816 yr I'm missing them already... the poor girls must think they are at the Crown Towers or something being at MB's place... I'm just hoping they come into condition soon enough I think Len will I'm just not sure about Lip... Her and her blue cere... Oh well, you can only try your best MB. Good luck and I'll have my fingers crossed. If you need anything just give me a call. I can't remember if I gave you my number... if I didn't PM me and I'll give it to you. Thanks for helping me out so much!

December 15, 200816 yr Excellent news guys, Â I wish you both the best of luck with joint breeding, it would be exciting for MB to pass on news about how they're going :budgiedance: , and JB how are you going to cope without your beloved budgies . By the way think of all the extra time you'll have to get on the forum now you don't have to spend hours labouring over Lip and Lenny .
