Favourite Mutation (specialisation) And Why?

Featured Replies

Hi all. Im thinking of getting an aviary and breeding a bit more. So I was thinking about what I would like to have and breed. And I then thought of asking....

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MUTATION (SPECIALISATION) AND WHY?

Interesting to see.

I love opaline and pieds. Also interested in crested and tufted. Im not a big fan of massive show birds. Prefer pet types (although im leaning towards bigger birds now that I have Levi)

I am trying to get into spangles and cresteds. I know you have been tracking my birds for sale Jess so you may be interested to know that my tufted pet type currently has three chicks and a bunch more eggs, more info to follow when they start to feather up.

I have one crest bred baby from my show cresteds at the moment and they are just starting their second clutch now. Spangles has been put on hold for the moment (unless a miracle happens and Ozzie fills an egg) as I don't have enough birds to breed from, so next year I think ;)

I have always liked pieds. I have a decent selection of recessive pieds to breed from. I also like dominant pieds and have some but not of the size or quality I would like them to be just yet. I love looking into a nestbox and seeing the pied markings begin on a baby with pin feathers.

I also like greywings and I am soon to be trying to breed some of them.

Lacewings are the best mutation by far... I mean seriously is there any doubt? I think not.. What can beat the cinnamon markings and the yellow or white... nothing.

Ummmm, YFtype 2 blue. Because Blue is one of my favourate colors and the YF makes it all greeny blue and its pretty, Wow I sounded like a kid then ;)

I can't pick just one...

I loved the pieds... just the contrast for the crisp white or yellow on the wings against the wing patterns really draws my eye... and I love the little beanie they get to wear on their heads... :hap:

I only own one but I also love spangles... I love the wing markings that look like an artist very carefully scalloped all the edges and did light brush strokes over the wings. :bliss:

And I must say I love dilutes too... no matter how old the bird is they always seem to have a "young look" about them... soft, pastel colors.... it's like EASTER every day and I love it!! :)

And of course YF2... it amazes me how pretty the mixture of two primary colors can make a bird... YELLOW and BLUE make GREEN.... the shades of green that you can get on YF2's are just out of this world. ;)

to many mutations to choose from so i decieded to chalange my memorie now i started breeding again i chose to stick to basic golden face rainbows havent got their yet as got off track looking at the candy ,ends up im breeding mixed lollies for now start being serious when i have my own line of generation happening a few long years away but genetically candy is fun. for now know what i need finding good stock around me diffrent story very sad but true ;)

I love pieds. The dominant pied is my favourite, i also like spangles too :)

I'd like to have some of every mutation and every possible combination of mutations but if I had to pick one it would be lacewing

I have everything except mop tops. I'm looking for new colour varieties.

Hi all. Im thinking of getting an aviary and breeding abit more. So I was thinking about what I would like to have and breed. And I then thought of asking....

Lol i must be the only one here who doesn't like pieds. With all due respect to those who like them - I find they are quite messy visually. The inconsistant patterning and striping is too random for my liking. My favourite colour is violet, and im actually considering trying to cross my light green male with my cobalt violet YF1 hen in the future (or as soon as possible) as a violet dark green looks like a beautiful rich colour to me (i at least want to see it once out of curiosity).

My favourite mutations is either spangle or melanistic spangle as far as common mutations go. Favourite rare mutation would have to be blackface grey. Favourite combination mutation and what i hope to one day specialise in is rainbow budgies (YF opaline clear wing blue).

Spangles would be on top but I also love Dominant and recessive pieds and Yellowfaces.

I am an old school girl at heart and Love my greys and df greys and yf greys. I also like the (and here is where I am not sure what you call them) blue/grey or grey/blue sort of the washed out blue colour. I also like the green/greys. I think I just like the darker birds.

I really like the traditional yellow and green. I think if (or when :( ) I get an aviary I'd like to fill it with bush budgies.

All time Fav is the Golden Face Grey Normal ( has to be the Dark grey )

then there are to many to list as they are mix mutations :(

I like the Recessive pieds and the yellow face blues.

  • 1 year later...

i love love love violets, just a beautiful colour :D

i like dean would love to see a dark green violet

i also like recessive pieds or when dominant pieds have a straight and distinct separation of colour

but i actually prefer just the NORMAL standard budgie :)

so just the normal face, body and wing markings, with a beautiful full coloured plumage on their front!!

if i could i would have an aviary full of normals of every colour

sky, cobalt, mauve, light green, dark green, olive, and normal violet

so as to have a standard appearance, but a beautiful selection and palet of colours!

Lacewings, lacewings, lacewings and lacewings......................... oh and violet clearwings have to be in there.
