Posted December 5, 200816 yr Well I only just found out about this because I am not a member of a club so please bare with me... In Daz's Aviary forum there was a question about rings asked and it caught my eye... I asked about it and was told that the year had been changed from starting 1 Jan to 1 September... Does anyone know why they did this and are we in 2009 now or 2008?? I'm a bit confused...
December 5, 200816 yr okay so when I am buying next years rings should I be budgeting for breeding until September or breeding until December?
December 5, 200816 yr okay so when I am buying next years rings should I be budgeting for breeding until September or breeding until December? Budget for Sept this note from my ring info..... PLEASE NOTE: Due to the new ring issue date in 2010, you need to take into consideration that you will only require sufficient rings for 8 months [2009]. Edited December 5, 200816 yr by KAZ
December 5, 200816 yr Ta Given my breeding season doesn't really start until September or so I would have seerly over budgeted, I'm glad someone told me ANother question given all my hens are laying/ chicks are hatching now do I ring based on hatch date or ring dat or does it not reallymatter given they'll all be rung around new years? You use any 2008 rings you have for the chicks that need ringing this year and you should get new ones if you ordered them for next years chicks.
December 5, 200816 yr okay, well I would say at worst the last chicks will get rung in the first week of January(but hatched this year) so I might just fudge it for those ones, which means I probaby don't need to order any for next year as I'm not planning any winter breeding given I hope to moe house.
December 5, 200816 yr ... this is interesting. 2008 ring will finish on or after the 14th december 2008. 2009 rings will start on or after the 15th December 2008 and finish 31st August 2009. 2010 rings will start on or after the 1st September 2009 and finish 31st September 2010. 1st September is the start of spring which is the natural breeding time for the birds.

So the 2010 year will go for 13 months??? I don't get it. MB judging my that info you might need some 2009 rings after all.. LILBABYBUDGIES you can buy split rings from some petshops if you want to keep track of who is related to who (so that you don't inbreed) but if you are just starting out it should be pretty easy to keep track... mainly just for when you get a few pairs going I think...
