Posted December 3, 200816 yr I have two clutches (1 with 8 eggs and 1 with 5 eggs). The one has two chicks hatched out and I noticed that one of the bubs is much lighter in color than the other. Mum is feeding both well, but I was just wondering why such a difference in color? Just so you know I felt him and he's not cold.
December 3, 200816 yr If the bulb is healthy and okay then I would say it is because it is a different mutation, have you checked the eyes to see the color?
December 3, 200816 yr Author If the bulb is healthy and okay then I would say it is because it is a different mutation, have you checked the eyes to see the color? Both the chicks eyes are still closed, but they both are a dark dark blue/black color. I've never heard to "check the eyes". What does that mean? What is it I'm looking for besides the normal "exam" (beak, wings, feet, vent, etc...) in his eyes?
December 3, 200816 yr to see if the eyes are red will indicate an ino, plum eyes within the first couple days indicate cinnamon
December 3, 200816 yr Author to see if the eyes are red will indicate an ino, plum eyes within the first couple days indicate cinnamon Parents are Mauve Opaline Hen and Sky blue YF2 Greywing Split to recessive pied cock... I don't think I can get an ino or cinnamon from them, can I??? That might be more for the genetics/mutation forum huh?

December 3, 200816 yr hate to tell you this, but when you get a whiter shade of pale chick, it usually means that they are not healthy. Most do not survive. Some do. I had a year where 4 died, and yet one remarkably survived. There is not much you can do but hope that the little pale one survives.
December 3, 200816 yr I have to agree with Dave, The colour of that chick doesn't look ino to me and i can see the eyes are not red - anyways my ino and cinnamon chicks were all red at hatching. Good luck and i hope it makes it.
December 3, 200816 yr Author Another chick hatched in this clutch and this one is nice and dark pink... the other one though seems to be a bit darker than earlier today, but still lighter than the other two. I hope everyone is wrong and he makes it.... I'll keep you posted. Thanks for your replies.
December 3, 200816 yr That new chick in ino And the second chick is starting to look a better colour so i hope it will be okay :laughter: Edited December 3, 200816 yr by **Liv**
December 4, 200816 yr It's feet are still white... I would have to agree with Dave & Liv ..... I hope it pulls through keep a close eye on it for the next few days Good luck .... And congrats on the hatchings
December 4, 200816 yr i agree 3rd chick looks to be ino :thankyou: i cant see the dark eyes through the skin like on the other 2 . as for the 2nd chick i hope it pulls through for you
December 4, 200816 yr Read this ............. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....c=21211&hl=
December 4, 200816 yr hope it pulls through. I remember reading about Pale Ale (Dave's Bird) Try what Binks and Lutoff sugest... They've bred alot of birds in there time so give it a go... Congratulations on the red eyed bird... that you didn't think you could get
December 4, 200816 yr Plum eyes can also mean a Double Factor Spangle. This is only in the first few days after hatching.
December 4, 200816 yr Author Just an update... the little pale fellow is still doing well. His color is still a shade or so lighter than that other two, but her seems strong and mum is feeding him well. Fingers crossed.
December 4, 200816 yr good news, I hope he is okay , as I don't breed on can't comment on the color in that terms other then possible mutation difference.
December 5, 200816 yr I'm pleased to hear your pale little guy is doing well. Newbies like me learn so much from following topics like yours!
December 5, 200816 yr Author did you try the oil trick chrissy? good luck. No JB I didn't try it, but the chick is back to full color and the fourth chick has hatched out. All four are doing wonderful so far and mum is feeding them well. I made sure there was a steady supply of veggie/egg mix along with seed and clean water and cuttle and minteral block. Maybe the full diet help or maybe it just had a tough start, but it seems well right now. I'm glad I read about the oil though because I have a second clutch with three bubs so far, but there's still 5 more eggs to go...
