Dear All

This is my first post into this forum , I'm new to the budgie world , my budgies are 11 months old, got them before 7 months , a cobalt blue male & white blue female, i recently noticed that the male is losing feathers , the small fluffy ones , yesterday at night i heard them fighting , when i checked them out i found that the male has lost 3 long feathers from his right wing, he even get feathers out by his beak when he is cleaning himself , i also noticed that his cere changed from blue to light brownish color before 2 weeks , some say that he is molting , he seems active & in a very good health , I don't want him to be sick , can anybody help?

Thank you all

He could be just moulting. Is there any bald patches?

The cere changing from blue to brown either means that he has some hormonal issues too or it could in fact be a female budgie.

Are you able to post pictures??

No bald patches , he looks healthy ,

I dont know if these pictures work , i will take closer one for him , you see the left wing has full feathers but the right one lost most them ,

Could be a female after all this period of time?

I'd say it's a hen who's moulting :P When the cere was blue/whitish brown it would've been out of condition but has now turned brown in it's prime :D

Hi and welcome to the forums. I hope you find yourself at home here and learn everything you want to... :P

I agree with the others... a moulting hen!

I think its a hen too.. :laughter: Don't worry I got a bird and thought it was a male too because it had blue on the cere... not so.. :D

She probably looked like a male for some time as a hen that is out of breeding condition can have a chalky blue cere. She is in breeding condition and looks to be moulting.... but also loosing all the flight feathers from one wing as she has is not just a moult - she might be having a stress moult

I agree with the others that it is actually a hen ....

I am assuming that her cere was a light blue/ white colour and you were told it was a boy
