March 27, 200520 yr (Laughing out loud) its a cabinet/armoire i bought from a store called IKEA and replaces the white decorative plastic windows on the door with thick wire mesh
March 27, 200520 yr Cool. I really don't think my parents want me turning cuboards into bird cages!!! :bluebudgie:
March 27, 200520 yr yep same here (Laughing out loud) but thats a realy cool idea i think thats way big enough for 4 (Laughing out loud) :(Laughing out loud):
March 27, 200520 yr Great cage, are the food dishes on the floor-maybe they might get a bit contaminated with droppings there? Otherwise it looks perfect. Julie (Seriously thinking about making one-any hints?) Julie
March 27, 200520 yr i think there are seed pots attatched to the walls julie i see 2 pink ones and 1 green. it looks very nice! my boyfriend had a similar idea but i said no because i wouldnt have room for all my clothes! Edited March 27, 200520 yr by pixie25
March 27, 200520 yr wouldnt they chew through the wood? i was going to make one very similar but my hen would have destroyed it before the day was done.
March 27, 200520 yr okay, well i know what is going to be said so yes they can chew through it. But i still think they would need an edge to get started...
March 27, 200520 yr theres 1 stainless steel dish on the floor just incase they start to fight and sombody falls down and Hey look food! nobody poops in that corner i made sure before i put it there The only spot for them to start chewing is the little blocks that hold the perches out from the walls and the perches themselves... their only happy chewing the perches they could care less about chewing anything else and my guys arnt really big chewers so im not going to worry about them chewing so no chewing no spot avaiolable to start :blow: i can take more pictures and tell how it was made if anyones interested (Laughing out loud) Edited March 27, 200520 yr by BrokenDreamz
March 27, 200520 yr i started it bu citting off the top half of that white plastic cardboard looking stuff on the doors to give the birds windows and replaces it with that hard metal mesh stuff the Couboard came wiht that bottom shef at the bottom and 1 pole in there for you to hand your clothes on which we replaced with a wooden perch everything was taken out and given a waterproof coat of non toxic sealent to protect from poops and any water spillage we drilled lots of more holes in there to put more perches in it and mounted at light at the top and were using a natural light its suposed to be like real sunlight but its just a fluorescent light in my oppinion we then mounted brackets specially fit for the waterdishes we also mounted little block to hold out the perches using basi curtain brackets that are bent( for the 2 perches on either side of the couboard) and the basic clip ion holder things for the long perches which came with the couboard i then added my little mesh ladders everywheres for the birds to get around and strung rome everywheres for a easy to get around and softer perch for Buddy my guys can easliy get to anywheres in the cage the only problem with the rop is it ocasionally has to be re-strung everywheres as it starts to sag under the budgies weight your only problem might be finding half this stuff as my dad works for a specialty place that makes pins and buckles and he made all those brackets and cut off the ladders and door windows which required special jewlers cutting gear (Laughing out loud) ( confusing? ) there is also a hoot in the center for a toy but were planing on putting one of those bungie twisted rope perches from there there is also an area under where the budgies are that i use for food storage ( extra seed is kept in fridge) and extra supplies and any first aid items i may need for my budgies which i am saying righ tnow is a disgusting mess filled with feathers and seed husks which i have just cleaned out now it gets about this dirty every week as you can see i havnt done my cleaning recently tweety decided to knock a bunch of stuff down and make cleaning much more fun this morning well any questions jsut ask i also hung a toy on the door thats ment for alrger parrots but my guys just love it \ and its okay you dont need to keep the bad comments to yourself i know its messy but everything gets a bath over the weekend and i change the cage every day ... i should scrub it down more oftin tweety loves pooping on the walls and creating such a mess Edited June 26, 200619 yr by BrokenDreamz
March 27, 200520 yr oh wow why didnt i think about doing that? it's so cool and its certainly big enough for 4 budgies hmmmm maybe a little trip to IKEA wouldnt be that bad...i'll have to convince my mom to let me do that
March 27, 200520 yr Wow your cage setup is really nice, you're budgies are definitely spoiled and lucky! It's obviouslly a very well thought-out home, which is good. I'm sure they have -plenty- of room
March 28, 200520 yr I just hinted to dad that heaps of people change cuboards into bird homes......he nodded.....i dunno if he heard me though cause he's watching the footy! *sigh* Wow, the toy on the door is so cool!!!! Even i would be entertained by that thing!!!!
March 28, 200520 yr its all really cool and great, i am seriously thinking about doing it myself, even my mom said its a great idea and that she would help me make one.. thanks for the idea!! but one thing, about that toy on the door; the spirals are rumoured to be dangerous, just imagine your little birdy's leg getting all caught up in it.. but as it is a larger toy i should think that there is enough space inbetween the spirals for a budgie's leg not to get caught in it? (sorry i just needed to warn you about that)
March 28, 200520 yr on alot of sites i have been on it says that the spirals on toys like that are very dangerous for the birds. and they need to be supervised when playin with them
March 28, 200520 yr I just hinted to dad that heaps of people change cuboards into bird homes......he nodded.....i dunno if he heard me though cause he's watching the footy! *sigh* Wow, the toy on the door is so cool!!!! Even i would be entertained by that thing!!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Re your first sentence Bea-yes I'm having the same response from my hubby-maybe footy is not the best time to be hinting at it?!? Julie
March 28, 200520 yr Footy is so boring. Dad goes deaf to everything but the TV while the footy is on!!!
