Posted December 2, 200816 yr Hi, I'm thinking of maybe breeding a pair of my budgies later. Here is the girl, (she's new) with the flash on: And flash off: The male, Banshee, is a Cobalt/Violet Clearflight Pied. I'm guessing the girl is a grey-green normal maybe? So my questions are, what mutation is she, and what colour babies would they have if they were bred? P.S.: I am calling her Akara, but because I have another girl called Kyra, I'm deciding whether or not to rename her. Name suggestions would be greatly appreciated! P.P.S: She is obviously a show bird..and for the sake of curiousity, what kind of show faults (that you can see in these pics) does she have? Thanks.
December 2, 200816 yr She has a nice booy head or a hen really need a photo tht shows her full body rom the sides
December 2, 200816 yr She is a grey green normal as you thought and as green is dominant you only get green series babies. You may get surprises like INOS or Recessives. You will only get blue series if she is split blue. She is a nice hen and I would use her if she was mine Edited December 2, 200816 yr by KAZ
December 2, 200816 yr She is nice, she looks like a grey-green to me too - i am not good with my greens yet. If she breeds with a blue male she will have all green babies unless she is split to blue. Some babies will be dominant pied and other will be normals.
December 2, 200816 yr I agree with the others. An I right in saying some of the babies will be grey green or do both parents have to be grey green in order gor the grey to come through? Genetics really isn't my thing... Good luck with it all!
December 2, 200816 yr Author okay thanks all for your replies. Hey Kaz, you mean you would show her? Because I got her from the petshop, I thought breeders only really sold there if the bird couldn't be shown. (or not worth showing anyway) Liv, you mean some babies will be Clearflight Pied and some will be normals? Also, where would the parents grey and violet come in? I mean, would I get grey greens/blues, etc? Because grey is dominant right? Edited December 2, 200816 yr by Jen144
December 2, 200816 yr okay thanks all for your replies. Hey Kaz, you mean you would show her? Yes she is worth a try, but at very least she may be good breeding stock Because I got her from the petshop, I thought breeders only really sold there if the bird couldn't be shown. (or not worth showing anyway) No...they also sell because the other siblings may have been better than she was Liv, you mean some babies will be Clearflight Pied and some will be normals? Also, where would the parents grey and violet come in? I mean, would I get grey greens/blues, etc? Because grey is dominant right? Green is dominant
December 2, 200816 yr She means the only WAY you will et blues is i she is split not that you wil only et blues rey is a dominant colour so about half the babies will be grey greens or greys if she is split to blue the rest will be greens (or blues if split) You could expect about hal pieds
December 2, 200816 yr Author Oh..lol. If she is split for blue, would the green just override all the other colours, (the violet, cobalt, etc) so I'll just get greens and greys/grey greens?
December 2, 200816 yr Oh..lol. If she is split for blue, would the green just override all the other colours, (the violet, cobalt, etc) so I'll just get greens and greys/grey greens? If she is split for blue you will get a good mix of blues, greens, grey greens and any other surprises. I just had a green split recessive hen breeding with a green and yellow recessive cock. I assumed all the babies would be yellow and green pieds or green normals. Three are now white and getting their pied markings so both parents are split blue. A nice surprise. December 2, 200816 yr Big chance you will get some greys with that pair. IVe got a light green / greygreen pair and have grey babies coming out my ears
December 2, 200816 yr She is a nice hen congrats , and I agree on what she is. A Green Gray bird is a bird that is Green with the Added Factor of Grey. Grey is a dominant added factor. So on a green bird you will have Green Gray and on a blue based bird you will have Grey. Kaz has explained it well So you know the Green and the Grey together are co-dominant that is why you have a green/grey bird vs just a green bird. If she is a double factor Grey carrier then all the babies will be grey green and if split to blue and paired with a bird blue or split to blue you will have greys. So green greys and greys only. If she is a single factor Grey then you will have a mixture of green/grey and greens *50% of each is the expection. BUT if your bird is split to blue and you breed with a blue or split to blue bird then you will have a mixture of greens, greys, blues and grays . As Kaz said.
