Posted November 30, 200816 yr Does anyone know why wooden aviaries don't seem to be very popular in Australia... It seems in the UK and Europe they prefere wood but here in Australia they don't... Is is cos we like supporting Australian businesses like bluescope steel or are they better suited to our climate??? Anyone know?
November 30, 200816 yr No idea - I always just thought of tin/metal ones being more permanent and less vulnerable to Mice, mites, mould and other nastiest that love wood.
November 30, 200816 yr If you wanted the aviary to last I expect you'd need to use a hard wood or permapine. Permapine would be poisonous if the budgies chewed the wood and steel is probably cheaper than hardwood. Thats just my guess anyway!
November 30, 200816 yr One of my aviaries is made of hard wood, i don't Know about anywhere else but Australia has a big prblem with white ants maybe that's why. Edited November 30, 200816 yr by splat
November 30, 200816 yr I agree with Liv. Metal will last for ages. The birds are less likely to chew it. More permanant. Easy to clean (you can hose down and scrub, which is harder to do with wood)
