Posted November 29, 200816 yr I have this huge cactus in my backyard that for most of the year is very dull but once a year for a few weeks it puts on a beautiful display of flowers.
December 1, 200816 yr Oh WOW!! Might be a silly question but do you know roughly how old that cactus is? did you plant it?.. My mum has some in her garden but they are only little.. she asked me the other day if i wanted any, i said no as they are too prickly for me but after seeing yours in flower.... i may just change my mind ...
December 1, 200816 yr My hubby is a cacti crazy man.... He will be able to tell you all about it if you are interested. Plants that size can be quite valuable too - if you ever get sick of it or it falls over, don't chuck it into the bin. chop it into 30cm pieces and you will make youself quite a bit of $$$$ on ebay

My hubby would love to get rid of it but i love it especially when it is in flower. We bought our house 8 years ago and it was here then so i have no idea how old it would be and it was only as tall as the carport roof so it has grow heaps in the last few years.
December 2, 200816 yr It is such a beautiful flower. Your cactus is called 'Cereus chalybaeus.' Edited December 2, 200816 yr by birdluv
December 2, 200816 yr well from the sounds of it deb you could have it both ways... cut it down into 30cm lenths... (husband is happy) and plant one of the 30cm sticks (you are happy) and then sell the rest on ebay and make money (both you and Husband are happy) :laughter:
