What To Pair With?

Featured Replies

I have one Red eye Lacewing male[white series like dad] ,the dad was red eye lacewing, white series and mom yellow series. I would like to get more yellow ones like mom. Any suggestions as what type/color hen I should pair him with? He is just about a year old now and I would like to get him ready for breeing. I have added a picture of the parent birds

picture turned to link, over the size regulations of 640x480, you can resize and repost image if you like

You will need either another yellow lacewing hen or a green normal hen split for lacewing.

You need...

Feel free to send him over I'll make sure I quarantine and all that... I'll send you the Yellow babies back and I'll keep the white ones. Sound Good??

Lacewing is sex linked so a hen cannot be split for lacewing.
That's what I thought, just Kaz having a blonde moment then :D
We all have them, but in my case it's a bald moment
:D When my mum forgets something she says she's having 'an older persons moment' I just tell people I have two sons and my brain is mush so you'll have to bear with me :(

JB can we see that hen of yours one more time I don't think i got a good look at her the last 2 times  ...

Quickest way would be to buy either a lutino Hen or Green series Lace wing Hen ...

by green series lacewing hen did you mean like this neat???

Could I pair him back to mom or is this not a good thing to do? Just asking haven't done anything yet

Sure Jimmy I will put him on the next flight!

you couldn't pair him back to mom, the closest people line breed is Grandparent to grandschild or Half sister to half brother...but once you start doing that it gets VERY complicated. Do a search for Line Breeding. I wouldn't recomend it as one of your first attempts at breeding. Could you look around for a Lutino Hen (All yellow with red eyes)? that should help you get some of the outcomes you want I think... It wouldn't be as high percentage as white lacewing to yellow lacewing...

I am resizing the picture, because upon so many looks at your bird JB, lol, Mom to my boy is Lutino. She has the white cheek spots and no markings on wings or head. Any new suggestions now. I know the REL male 1year old I have, the dad red eye lacewing was masking grey, mom was lutino. I know dad was masking grey as when I paired him to a normal violet hen I got 2 grey males and 2 red eye lacewing hens and one light violet. Wow hope I haven't confused any of you.... here is a resized picture of the red eye lacewing boys parents, the red eye lacewing dad masking grey, and lutino mom 000_0018.jpg

Genetics really isn't my thing but I know to make sure you get lacewings you should pair with another lacewing... Its a sex linked gene... if you want split lacewing cocks and lacewing hens pair with others.... I am sure if you search through the forum there would be a lacewing breeding chart giving you the expected outcomes with pairings... might be worth a look... Do you wana see what I think you should pair him too??? look bellow at my signature on the left hand side... or to the left on my avatar (the bird in front.)

That's what I thought, just Kaz having a blonde moment then :D

Yep :P
