Posted November 24, 200816 yr Hi, I just brought home a new budgie. (it's a show budgie) She was fine yesterday, but today she has really runny, kind of green poos..I don't know if she's fluffed up or not, this is my first show budgie I've owned and from what I've seen they all look fluffed up. She isn't sleeping all the time, though she is quiet..she doesn't move around much, doesn't move at all when I put my hand right up to her (touching her chest) though if I go a little closer she flies around..She was like that where I bought her too, and from what I've heard show budgies usually are quieter that pet types right? Is she sick or okay? P.S. not sure where to ask this, so I'm adding it here..she has a green ring on her leg that says: CDB 07 117..what does that mean?
November 24, 200816 yr For starters her ring means she is an 07 bird, her breeder intitial is CDB and ring number 117. As to the green po it most likely just means she hasn't eaten much. We need more info, what is she eating (if anything), can you feel her keel bone(the chest bone), does she have a dirty bum. I'm sure others will come up with other questions

(ie, what she looked like, her temperment, something meant they didn't want her) Well, I got her yesterday, and as far as I've seen she hasn't eaten a thing..though that is normal for going to a new home isn't it? I'd say her keelbone isn't very easily felt, but she's not fat either..I think she would be normal, a bit on the thin side. She does have a dirty bum, becuase of one really runny poo that's kind of mucked up her feathers there..
November 24, 200816 yr Her age doesn't mean anything, most show breeders won't cull (send to new homes) show babies until they are atleast six months old and they have assessed their show/breeding potential.
November 24, 200816 yr Author Alright, so the runny greenish poos are from her not eating enough, which is probably because she is in a new home...so she is fine?
November 24, 200816 yr It is the immediate reason but she may certainly be sck as well. A photo would really help

November 25, 200816 yr I am a beginner that had the same thing happen to me and Neat suggested canary seed to help her eat and it worked and so did millet. I was lucky that in my situation I think she was just stressed from travel, new home and maybe going from Aviary to quarantine cage? Maybe yours is sick but on the offchance maybe try millet and canary seed and covering the cage a little more to keep her warm?

Thanks that's a good idea..I've already got millet in there, plus some seed treats and a dish of seed as well, to encourage her to eat..maybe some veges or fruit could get her to as well. I'll be keeping a close eye on her, in any case.
November 25, 200816 yr I would keep in mind an avian vet trip if she doesn't get better, that is me though.
November 25, 200816 yr Author I would keep in mind an avian vet trip if she doesn't get better, that is me though. Yes that is what I am planning to do if she stays in the same condition/gets worse. Here's hoping she'll be fine and this is just due to stress though.
November 25, 200816 yr If the droppings and sticky vent area have a smell it is a bacterial infection and not stress related.
