Posted November 24, 200816 yr I am planning on taking these two chicks along on Thursday to the club show. Do they look alright? (Excuse the food on her face ) Her sister
November 24, 200816 yr Nice, I like 'her sister'. Id like to know if she ends up flecked when she moults though-. Fluffy little things lol, I love the amount of stripes on her face
November 24, 200816 yr Author I actually think the cinnamon will be a better bird in the long run, her sister is nearly a week older and that does make a big difference. The cinnamon still has the odd bit of down fluff under her wings
November 24, 200816 yr Have you been spraying them with warm water to condition the feathers and make them preen ? A good plan prior to show. No messy soft food prior to show or messy faces do not go down well in a show cage. How much tail does the cinnamon have as it looks shortish there ?
November 24, 200816 yr Author It wasn't soft food she just decided to dunk her head in her water bowl and then face plant into the seed on the bottom of the sho cage Her tail is shortish and that's been my main concern with whether she'll be ready enough for this week, I'll just have to see how much it grows in the next few days. The cinny has been spending a lot of time preening over the past couple of days. Unfortunately had she hatched a week earlier she would have been good, I think she's only really borderline at the moment but that's life...
November 24, 200816 yr Author Sorry I was being cryptic without meaning too, she has been spending a lot of time preening because I have been spraying her

November 24, 200816 yr Author I have some other stuff which I haven't used yet but might if it might help which is called skin and feather lotion, it's a very weak tea tree oil spray on feather tonic??

November 24, 200816 yr Author Yeah I've never been game to try it, someone gave it to me a while back I figure it's probably got antiseptic roperties so I'll save it for if one of the birds has a minor cut or something or I'll use it on the dogs...
November 29, 200816 yr Author As I suspected all along they were just slightly too young to really compete against the slightly older chicks. Plus we arrived to discover it wasn't a regular show but a tri-club show with over 200 birds and I was in the same class as champion breeders, so I really had no chance after that
November 29, 200816 yr The second pictured looks awesome ... Sorry to hear that the timing was off ...But was it a good experience
November 29, 200816 yr Author I actually think her sister the cinnamon will be better in the long run but she's nearly a week younger and was going through a real top heavy stage in that photo as her tail is still quite short and she hasn't filled out much yet, I look forward to showing her in January. And yes had a chat to a few of the older breeders who'd been doing it forever Edited November 29, 200816 yr by melbournebudgies
November 29, 200816 yr And yes had a chat to a few of the older breeders who'd been doing it forever Then it wasn't all in vain. Lots of information to collect when going to show's... never know what you might learn. (Says he who still hasn't gone to a show, but its what I've heard)
November 29, 200816 yr From the photo the Normal looks like it sits better even though the cinny looks as though it has a longer mask . I think that the Normal has a better head .... Suppose after they break their cap you will be able to tell Good Luck in Jan-
November 29, 200816 yr Author She looked just the same as the cinnamon until only a few days before that photo. Even today the cinnamon is starting to look more like a grown up budgie rather than hanging over the perch like a baby
