Posted November 24, 200816 yr I have this little cinnamon spangle crest bred chick who I am starting to wonder whether she is also opaline, any thoughts?
November 24, 200816 yr Author She is spangle but the markings are kind of weird and thick and sometimes instead of a spangle she has a feather that is half clear half cinnamon I was more thinking because she seems to lack markings in her V area
November 24, 200816 yr Do you have a picture of her further away sometimes it is easier to see but I know if they don't have the V they are not opalines that is what makes them opaline.
November 24, 200816 yr Author Because of her colouring if I take a photo further back you can hardly see anything at all she just turns into a yellow blob on the camera
November 24, 200816 yr I think she is. There a whole new group of spangles coming out now carrying both normal spangle markings and opaline markings on the one bird.
November 24, 200816 yr Sometimes it is easier to see the opaline gene further away then close up especially when the marking are so light , I agree it is very common to have both.
November 24, 200816 yr She looks opaline to me and she has no markings on the back of the neck so she is not normal spangle, I have some the same, My latest is a light green opaline spangle and she has the classic opaline colour which is not good and some black markings BUT my other opaline spangles are classed as well marked opaline as they have the black outline on the wings etc
November 24, 200816 yr Author Bugger!!! That means the cock is split opaline, I'm trying to keep that seperate from my spangles Ah well, atleast I know to be careful when pairing any male chicks they have in the future as I have a 50:50 chance of them being split for it.
November 24, 200816 yr YEP MB most of my cocks are split opaline and cinnamon BUT don't be too hasty not to use them as cinnamon gives you feather and opaline gives you size So not to use them would almost be suicide considering we are all after that illusive feather which I now have in my aviary using both of the above. ANd I also have size now. Edited November 24, 200816 yr by splat
November 24, 200816 yr Author Yeah I know, I don't mind the cinnamon but I have a preference for using large normals for size rather than opalines, I just really don't like the opaline spangle marking
November 24, 200816 yr But you need to be carefull of the cinnamon to as the judges do not like cinnamon spangles much as there colour is washed out. The that picture in my name thing here is a cinnamon opaline sky blue hen she got 2nd best uncapped spangle at the shield, that means 2nd best in Victoria but I was told that she would of won if she wasn't cinnamon SUCkS. I don't mind my opaline spangles as they look normal most of them. I had a judge here the other day and asked him the difference and he said my opaline spangles were well marked ones which almost looked normal some are hard to tell the differnce.
