Featured Replies

I am taking three birds to my first show on Thursday  but I've just realsied that I am still running onmy winter supply of seed which includes sunflower and safflower. Does the seed have to be straight budgie or can I leave this seeds in? I'm loath to go and buy new seed until my current lot is close to finished but I might run some through a coarse sieve if I have to.

I think the seed is meant to be a mix of the usual but I don't know about your additives try to strain them out, do you get the BCV mag it is in there somewhere.

I know that you are meant to have good amount in the bottom of the cage like an inch thick at least.

I am not very experience as only been to a couple of shows maybe ring one of your club members and make sure because some states are different.

I JUST LIFTED THIS OF THE BCV RULES

So it sounds like theoretically I can't be disqualified for i but maybe I'll try and strain it out so that it doesn't draw any attention to it.

I think you can be disqualified or marks taken off you if your seed isn't to standard

But the standard above simply states: Mixed seed consisting of at least three of the following - Plain Canary, Pannicum, Japanese Millet, White Millet and Hulled Oats must be used on the floor of the show cage for all shows. There shall be no paper or other underlay on floor

My seed contains atleast three of those as well, it doesn't say you can't have others over and above those

Well I guess you are right :D but I myself wouldn't risk it ,so you would be better off asking one of your members.

Even if you can get some of the sunflower out the over seed might note be so noticeable.

Good luck at the show oh by the way where is the show.

Pretty easy to remove the sunflower through a food strainer :D

It's just the monthly club show but still a new experience for me :D I have a colander that should llow the small seeds to drop through fine so I'll run some seed through that before Thursday

My Partner made his own stainer by using a icecream container and drilling holes of the size you want in the bottom which he stained corn out of his feed so maybe you can make one like that to strain out the sunflower.

Good luck MB!

I haven't had my first show yet but can't wait to hear how you go. Don't forget your camera!
