Hi,,

 

My budgie doesnt go out side too often, only on nice warm days...

 

I put him outside today and was looking at him in the sun when i noticed a little brown looking thing crawling on his head...Not sure if its lice or not but was thinking of buying something for lice

 

Ive seen lice medicine that comes in liquid and powder

 

Which is better to use ? The powder or liquid ?

 

also whats a good brand ?

Personally I think the best you can get is an Ivermectin spot on, your local avian vet might sell it but I buy mine from the bird sales when they are on. I buy a 50ml bottle for $3 and that will do over 100 treatments. It treats, mites/lice, scaly face, etc and you only need to treat them once to treat an existing problem.

I don't believe Ivermectin will treat lice that doesn't consume the bodily fluids.... i may be wrong :rofl:

I use a mite and lice spray for the little brown feather mites.

Don't use powder, the sprey is much better on the lungs.

Ivermectin taken internally won't Liv but the spot on to the back of the neck should :rofl:

does anyone know where i can buy " Ivermectin spot on " in Adelaide....Would most pet shops sell it ?

 

I assume its a liquid too ?

Pet shops won't sell it, you would need to speak to a vet (preferably an avian one) or look up when there is a bird sale on in your area or even speak to a local bird club as they will often sell it

Yeah youre correct. I just called a few pet shops and they dont sell it as they said its not registered or something like that..

 

I called one avian vet...Glenside vet where Pin needham is, but they told me its used for cattle...they also said they wouldnt just sell it to me, as they would want to see the bird 1st.....which is obviously going to cost me a consultation fee......hmmmmm, im confused now....

 

well can anyone just give me a good brand name one that comes in liquid form, that a petshop would sell.....

Spray the bird with Avian Liquid Insectcide also known as A I L .......here

 

 

available most bird supply stores and easier for you to get than the spot on treatment
