I'm thinking he is a Cobalt Blue Goldenface2 Dominant Pied Cock? Am I wrong? Help?

His face just looks so much more yellow to me than the other yellow on his body. PS.. He does have a yellow patch on the back of his head.

Looks about right to me ;)

You're kidding me.. I got this one right? I never had or delt with Goldenface so ... WOW :D

Is GF just like YF having Type 1 and Type 2 ? This is a type 2?

Type 2 yellow face. The yellow is not bright enough to be a golden face. The yellow on the face is usually brighter than the yellow in other areas on a yellow face. That sea foam colour is usually sky blue rather than cobalt

Chrissy, are the body markings black or dark cinnamon? If they are cinnamon (brown) markings it could possibly be what is referred to as golden face as cinnamon tends to take the edge off the colour. I think of the two types as Creamface and Australian yellow-face with the Aust Yface (golden face) having that brilliant buttercup yellow and the Creamface (yellowface) being much more wishy washy. Type-wise the bird looks like AYF (golden face) but a bit hard to tell from the colour of the mask in the photo. Yellow colour also floods more readily into the body colour and the wings with AYF (golden face) but in both types it will be paler in the wings if it affects the wings. Another spot to check is under the tail where an AYF may have brilliant yellow feathers on either side of the main tail feathers. An exhibition yellowface should have no yellow anywhere other than mask and tail. If it happens to be a golden face I encourage you to breed more like him because it is a beautiful variety which is often neglected. Jaz

The sea foam colour Neville refers to is probably the yellow washing down over skyblue (I think that's the same as Neville said but in slightly different words).

I believe it is a Yellowface too, Goldenface I have seen are a much deeper and darker yellow, he is a cutie though.

What was the lighting conditions when you took this photo ?

Flash on ?

Or lighting in and around the bird ?

His face is at least twice as dark as the yellow on his wings though?? Also I have a skyblue YF2 and he is no where near as dark in body color as this guy... I though the cobalt would justify him being so much darker?

This is my Sky blue YF2 he has a seafoam green color...

This is what I thought to be my Cobalt GF2 he has a more teal/aqua color...

So I'm confused now. Is it the greywing in the Sky's make up that makes him that much lighter?? I'm lost now.

Greywing will make the wings grey and the body a 50% dilute if he is a Full Body Greywing it would make his wings grey and his body 100% color strength (which is bright and regular color).

You used flash on these pictures an flash will alter the coloring making a dilute look bright a blue look too purple, black wings look brown. The best way to take pictures is to use natural lighting when the sun is out with no flash.

Also here is an article that was posted on BBC about Understanding the Violet Gene, it is PINNED under Mutations. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=12367

It's the aviary over head lights... regular incandescent bulbs, no flash

I did not use flash on these pics at all... it's all nature or aviary lighting... no flash

Can anyone comment on this now that there are new pics? YF2 or GF2? Sky or Cobalt?

I think you need to take pictures with the birds standing up next to the window so we can see the whole body :o, in those pictures it is hard to see because of the towel around the bird. :D, at least that would be easier for me.

I will try Elly, but this particular bird has one heck of a bite to him and I don't clip wings so he takes off on me. He's not very tame, but I will try. Is there a way to hold them with only two fingers were they can't reach you to bite?

LOL...can you put him in a small cage and then take a picture of him through the cage bars?

I will try it... picture to be posted soon. Thanks Elly.

i would say yf2 sky blue as he appears to be the same colour in those pics as one of my boys :D

I think Yellow Facy 2 because of the bleed of colour through the wings :D

I guess its just hard for me to understand how I can have two birds both sky yf2s and one be soft pastel seafoam green and the other be a very deep teal/aqua color?? The only difference between them would be one is pied and the other is greywing.

the yellow face gene comes in different depths just like the blues you can have a lighter sky blue or a darker sky blue but it is still sky blue because it doesn't have the depth for a cobalt. Just like blond hair on people some is very light and others are a darker blond no different.

How old is he? He is a skyblue, yf2 but in the standing up picture looks GF, the other pics just look yf2 though. Either way he is a pretty bird

I'm not sure how old he is, but his iris is developed. He was a re-home from a rescue (she called him a "throw away"). As promised here are pics standing up in natural sunlight in front of a window....
