Posted November 22, 200816 yr I don't want my budgie to raise a second clutch, but she's already laid one egg and another is due tomorrow...should I take out the nestbox and remaining eggs now, or will she get eggbound because I took out the nest and she'll have nowhere to lay? November 22, 200816 yr If you want her to stop laying, take out her box and throw away the eggs. She may lay an egg or two off the perch, but they are fine doing that. Does she have babies at the moment ???? and the remaining eggs, how old are they ?

November 22, 200816 yr It's fine to remove the egg and the box :bluebudgie: The egg even if firtile would not be developed in any way so there is nothing to hurt by tossing it away

I heard though that if you do remove the nest while they are still in the process of finishing laying a clutch they'll get eggbound because there is nowhere to lay.. :bluebudgie:
November 22, 200816 yr no that doesn't normally happen. Any hen can get egg bound, but they wont hold them in. Most hens will just lay 1 or 2 eggs of the perch and then thats done with until they are given a box again.
November 22, 200816 yr So, I assume this is not Storm and Cinder, who you have asked about in another post? Liv has giving great advice. I had a hen who was smashing her eggs and/or throwing them out of her nest box. I removed it. She laid a few off the perch and then stopped. Just make sure you offer her plenty of calcium... maybe in the water and as cuttlefish? Good luck and please keep us updated on how she goes :bluebudgie:
