Lovely New Cage!

Featured Replies

I love looking at the photos of budgies in their cages just to see how they are "furnished". I've been looking for inspiration on what cage to get for my birds, and finally i have got it! I love it! I just wanted to say if anyone doubts what cage to buy this one is called Montana San Remo and it is so great! It is a bit pricey but it is really spacious. It has three doors, one at the top, one proper big door and one opens to form a platform. My birds are quite untamed so it used to be really hard to get them in a regular cage with two small doors, whereas with this one it is no problem at all! they love sitting on it, climbing and the platform thing is perfect for putting fresh veg and soft foods for them to eat. I was doubting whether to buy it or not as their older cage was reasonably big too but now I am so happy I have got it and I just wanted to share my joy as I know people on this forum will understand (unlike my husband :P) So here goes the pictures! :hi:

The cage is modeled by Betty the budgie and Sophia the cockatiel  Hope you will enjoy it:)

Very nice cage, couple questions do you house your tiel and budgies together and what is the spacing on the bars for me to look a bit big for housing a budgie.

They are housed together and they get along very well, the budgie is a quiet girl but she can definitely defend herself and pushes Sophia off the treats and food bowls when she wants, and the cockatiel seems to listen to the older lady:) (the budgie is older). The spacing is around 1.4 cm, I can't really see how Betty can put her head through them:) and again she is a very quiet budgie so i don't even see her trying!:hi: They were introduced gradually and because I am at home all day I have been able to observe their behavior and I dont see any reasons for concern :P But thanks for asking

that is good, I love how you set it up, we do inches here so the bar spacing should be no more then 1/2 inch, not sure about cm, even if you don't think she can it is always best that you have the bar spacing correct :hi:.

0.5 inch = 1.27 centimeters

I too recently bought a cage that I have been told the spacing is too large for also. A shame indeed but maybe you can get your Cockatiel another friend and Betty a cage that she wont get her head stuck in? It would be a devastating find indeed to find your beloved pet had come to its demise that way. It doesnt mean that they couldnt still play together on top of their cages though I shouldn't think?

Oh well I didn't succeed in sharing my joy..

We have all agreed that it's a great cage we are just worried about the safety of your budgie if the bar spacing isn't suitable. Would you rather we didn't say anything until after there was a horrible accident?

Well I just watch them everyday, been watching for quite a while, i have never seen anything what would cause my concern. I am a responsible pet owner and really love them and would never put any of them at risk. My husband actually just checked it and said it was 12mm, which is 0.47 inch (he is an architect so hopefully he can measure correctly!).

If it's that wide then it's fine, you originally said it was 1.4cm which is a bit on the wide side so that's why members were worried.

A budgies head is smaller than it looks as their feathers make them look wider so even a few millimetres can make all the difference. I have seen budgies squeeze their entire body through 2cm bars so getting their head stuck 14mm bars is qute possible

A nice big cage... and it looks like they love it too. A suggestion if I may... the two wooden perches you have... one looks like it runs from front to back... the other digaonally. If it was my cage, I'd have them both running from front to back as this encourages them to fly back and forth, rather than run along the perch to get from one side to the other. Just my opinion. Also... do you have any more photos of Betty and Sophia. I'd love to see them. They look really pretty :bluebudgie:

Looks like an awesome cage!! :bluebudgie:

i can see they both love it very much. the bar spacing looks fine to me (its well under 15mm which is too wide)

Thank you very much:), and thank you for the suggestion about the perches I will see what i can do (the one which runs from side to side came with the cage and way to long to put from front to back, but I think I will just lower it just to make it a step to the bottom of the cage:)

I do have a few more photos of them and will post them in the picture section, thank you Maesie ;)

Cool, can't wait to see them. You could cut the longer one off so it fits... or you could even ditch it and get a natural branch... which is much better for their feet. Here is a link to safe natural branches if you're interested: SAFE WOOD. :D

Thank you, I have a few willow branches, eucalyptus ones and birch ones (they are waiting to be made into proper perches, they used to fit in a previous cage but not in this one), and their swings in the cage are made of natural wood too:) (I read the forum alot and have learnt tons about bird care from it ;)

I just wanted to post that it never crossed my mind that you were not a responsible pet owner I consider myself very responsible too but accidents can happen due to maybe not knowing information and that is why I orginal brought up the spacing. I would have to anybody who posted because that is what we do here on BBC we help budgie owners in the caring and raising of budgies responsible. There were many things I didn't know when I started here and that wonderful members of BBC gave me advice (whether I needed it or not) and I am thankful. So please don't be upet that it was brought up but happy that we all care too ;).
