Posted March 26, 200520 yr i just read that if a budgie sleeps on two feet then it can be a sign of illness, is this true because im pretty sure both my budgies sleep on two feet
March 26, 200520 yr Yeh I was worried about that when Sparky use to do it, so we took him to a vet and checked him over, :doctor: but he said that sometimes budgies just sleep on two feet
March 26, 200520 yr how do you know they sleep on two feet? mine sometimes rest during the day on one or two feet - like taking a little snooze, they choose to sleep on two feet during the day because they dont feel completely safe and a predator might come by and they have to be ready. i suppose its just their natural instinct. do you cover their cage at night? if you do then chances are that they do sleep on one foot during the night its just that you never see them doing it. if you peeked under the cover it would wake them and they would put their other foot back down. i have only seen my birds properly sleeping (one foot, head tucked under wing) ONCE since i have had them. but i know thats the way they sleep normally. if your budgies are a little ruffled lately or quiet then i would probably advise you to go see a vet just for reassurance
March 26, 200520 yr My birds often sleep on two feet. I would only worry if there was a sudden and dramatic change in their sleeping habits, or even a less dramatic change accompanied by a change in consistency of poops, fluffing, and change in appetite. The two-feet sleeping alone, I wouldnt worry at all. (its like we humans, some sleep on theier backs, some on their sides, some belly down, some with butt in the air, (Laughing out loud)!) I dont believe theres any hard and fast rule as to two feet, or one foot. Anne.
March 26, 200520 yr i think the most accurate way to tell if your budgie is sleeping okay is to have a look at the bottom of the cage. you can tell that your budgie has slept through the night in the same spot because there should be a little patch of poos all close together. if the poos are scattered all over the place then this would be quite worrying.
March 26, 200520 yr yeah therie poos are always in one place in the morning, and they are are hardly ever fluffed up unledd preening.. so they are probarbly just snoozing thanks
