Round Two On It's Way

I have the first eggs in my nest for round two, the father is Moe my pet type crested (tufted) boy and the mother is a pretty pet type mauve hen. They are sitting on 5 eggs at the moment although three of these are ones I have found on the floor of the aviary in the last week and just popped in the box on the off chance they are fertile, I found them tucked in corners so I think they have been layed in situ as opposed to dropped off perches, time will tell. They'll be mystery babies if they do hatch :D

I had others would have like to pair up but I had to let them slide this season as they were pet types and I didn't have enough space, by next season I'll hopefully be in my own house so should be much easier then.

Currently I have five pet type chicks all belonging to Mo (the tufted) and his mauve hen. The ino hen is sitting on eight eggs, One belongs to one of the show types who is doing a dodgy job of sitting (and it's probably not fertile anyway), of the others I'm not positive how many belong to the tufted but I have the first laid egg of the inos marked so any that hatch before that one belong to the tufted and any after that egg are the inos :D A couple will probably get moved over to the tufted to balance things out a bit as they are all fertile. :)

Ozzie and Lucy have two eggs now but I doubt they are fertile :D, the YF blue and green opaline have three eggs which don't seem to be fertile but I'll give them a few more days before I jump to conclusions and my crestbred hen is practically living in the nest box but is procrastinating about laying, the others still haven't done anything. I'm thinking about taking the front off a few cages, flipping them and changing the nest box position to see if that helps. Damn show types...

Candled and chucked all the show type eggs as they were all clear *grrrr* Have made a few changes to breeding cages in the last few days so hopefully things will get better from now on in.

The crested show pair finally laid one egg after fluffing around in the nest box for weeks but yesterday she cracked it ;) , the next one is due today so hopefully she has more luck this time around.

The tufted pet type pair have six babes in the nest now all doing beautifully. The ino/spangle pair have the first of their babies in the nest and 5 or 6 more eggs to go. One of the tufted chicks has plum eyes so I'm guessing dad must be carrying cinnamon but time will tell :D
