Bar Spacing?

Featured Replies

Posted

I have been given a new cage and need to know if a bar spacing of 1.3 cm or 13mm is o.k?

Thanks,

Trish.

1.2cm/ 1/2 inch is recomended... so 1.3cm should be fine. I'd be giving it a good scrub down with vinegar and hot water... and then a rinse and dry in the sun. Do you have a photo? :D

Oh..... that one looks too big :D

That is a Cockatiel & Quaker sized cage. I would say the bar spacing is too wide

The similar cage I have for my cockatiel is 2 cm spacing and this is 1.3 cm.

Measure your bar spacing again. I count 29 bar spacings (including one each for the tubular steel on each end) over a 45cm width equals 1.55cm per spacing - too wide

Hubby (cabinet maker) just got home and it is 12.5 mm or 1.25 cm.

Did you check the spacing on the edges of the little wire panels on the bottom section (between the side of the cage and the first wire heading towards the door) it looks wider there (could just be the photo though)

At the very bottom of the door is the main tray and they can't get past this. so the actual flight area is alot smaller and doesnt go down to the bars you mentioned. P.S. Thanks for helping everyone. :DI just went over the whole cage and there is one area that is 1.8 cm. It is only in one spot but I wont chance it on my budgies. Definately for Tiels or bigger. I love masked lovebirds, would they be o.k. in here?
