Posted November 19, 200816 yr When you have two young birds that you know you will want to pair and mate in the future, at what age do you pair them (I don't mean with nesting boxes) so they can become a bonded pair BEFORE breeding? Do you "bond" your birds first or do you just stick birds in together when you're ready to breed them? I don't know this because most of my bonded pairs bonded on their own in the aviary as young adults... but if you know from the start (3 or 4 months old) that you want to pair two birds when they are adults when do you do it? November 19, 200816 yr I do both. Sometimes if see a bonded pair in the aviary, i let them stay together. Other times i will split them up. It's just up to you who you want to breed together. If you put young birds together (without a box) they will bond closely. Most budgie pairs will bond closely when together - some will take over night and others will take weeks to months to get into each other. Edited November 19, 200816 yr by KAZ
November 19, 200816 yr For breeding purposes they bond pretty quick in a breeder cage and the presence of a nesting box. Better that way, as some committed and bonded pairs will not easily be with another budgie if paired up too soon and long term.
