Posted November 19, 200816 yr Not sure where to put this post, hope here's okay. I need to put 4 birds into an aviary with a couple other birds soon. (2 are related to eachother and the birds in the aviary, there are 2 bonded pairs) How do I go about introducing them to eachother? I can't do what you'd do with cage birds..
November 19, 200816 yr Providing they have been quarantined I have always just put them straight in and then kept an eye on things, I've never had a problem

November 19, 200816 yr I do the same. Do it at a time that you can be near by in case trouble breaks out. I try to do my on a Saturday morning when I'm just doing house chorse and such... if the aviary is large enough they will most likely find a spot they feel safe in until they become brave enough to explore or get hungry and head for the feed dishes. Good luck let us know how you make out.
November 19, 200816 yr I agree with MB and Chrissy, I also put birds straight into the aviary after quarantine. As already mentioned it is best to do it in the morning of a day where you can watch them. 99% of the time new birds are accepted into the flock by the existing birds.
November 19, 200816 yr Agree with everyone an as Liv says best to do it in the morning so they have all day to adjust. Make sure of extra feeding stations and watering areas.
November 19, 200816 yr Me... I'm a little bit different. After quarantine, I usually put them in their cage in my bird room, which adjoins the aviary for a day and night, then I put them in their cage IN the aviary and let them come and go as they please. With most of my birds, they are out like a shot and never go back. With Tweet Tweet (who we found in the backyard), he continued to go back and forth and actually sleep in the cage for a few nights before feeling comfortable in the aviary. I have found that this works for me... but I agree with the others about putting them in in the morning and watching them closely. I hope it goes well.
