Avian Vet. There is NOTHING you can do for him by yourself except take him to an avian vet. Please.

there all closed! :)

Call them anyway, many have emergency lines that will pick up. If not, do it first thing in the morning.

i will try that but if i cant get to one while the morning what should i do to help him :)

Maybe put something soft at the bottom of his cage and let him lie there. Keep him in a quiet warm room.

what about my other budgie wont she bother him

If she does, put him in a small spare cage. Or an open box if you have one.

i will do that . thank you for your help

You're welcome. I hope all turns out well with your budgie.

maybe a teatowel would be a good lining for him to lie on? his leg may be causing him some pain if he has broken it. the teatowel will also help to keep him warm. leave some seed right near him, if he is in pain he might not beable to move easily.

i hope he is okay, let us know what the vet says in the morning.

Keep him warm and comfy. Vet ASAP!!!

NO budgie should hit the ground hard enough to cause that sort of damage to itself! If its wings are clipped, then for him to land so hard they must be hacked beyond all reason and safety. I do pray that your budgie survives this (although my serious concern is a shattered keelbone from the trauma of the fall). If the bird has landed so badly because of an attrocious clip, his flights MUST be allowed to grow again to a reasonable length. If you feel you want your birds wings clipping, then it is really a job for a very experience handler, or an avian vet. (A bad clip can kill your bird on its first heavy landing.)

I really hope your poor bird makes it.

Anne

I'v got my fingers crossed :)

it might not be down to the clip itself. mine are moulting at the moment and one is slightly more ahead than the other and so has regained more flight than the other. it does cause a problem when casper flies and peanut tries to follow. unfortunately i only lety peanut play on the floor because he has a tendancy to follow casper and crash land as he cannot quite make it.

maybe you should only let him play close to the ground from now on?

That might be a good idea just till he gets some more flight back... :)

his wings have never been clipped he just bolted off my finger into a door then landed hard on the floor at a funny angle.

I spoke to the vet this morning and they said there isn't much they can do, all they said to do is to put it at the bottom of the cage and let try and heal itself which he seems to be doing as there has been some very slight movement in his legs and he's pruning his self so i think he must be getting better.

i hope he will get better.

i would recommend that you have your bird clipped if he is likely to injure himself in this way again. next time he might not be so lucky.

i ended up having my birds clipped because they were very flighty and i thought they would seriously do themselves some damage if i let them have full flight around the house. i was really worried that they wouldnt be happy if they couldnt fly but believe me they are happier now than they have ever been :) they are just regaining their flight but will happily fly over to me and they are much much easier to approach than before they were clipped. their flight is much more controlled now, they will just fly from perch to perch around the room rather than going mad and doing laps and exhausting themselves.

at the end of the day its a personal decision :D

is he moving his leg at all? i am just a bit concerned that if he tries to fly before it has healed properly he may damage himself further? maybe it would be better to speak to an avian vet as they might beable to suggest a type of split or something to give him time to heal properly? i hope he continues to get better soon :)

hi

i hope you budgie is okay.

simon

I agree with pixie25.

And yeah, you need to go to an avian vet. I've had dog and cat vets tell me there's nothing they can do but an avian vet will always look at your bird.

And please keep us posted on what happens!!! :bluebudgie:

he seems to be getting beter but it is early days, he still cant stand or walk but hes gettin more movement back into his legs, when have to clean him when he's been to the toilet he's moving his legs so im just taking it day by day but im not giving up on him. :)
