Posted November 16, 200816 yr Hello and greetings. I have a few questions please. I saw a post up here a month ago reagrding supplements that one member buys his birds.... Heres the link: supplements As you can see theres a huge list of things and obviously i dont want to go and buy all those things as im not breeding etc. I only have ONE budgie at home and he spends 95% of the time inside with me. I put him outside on nice days but hes under a verandah which is inclosed with shade cloth. I just want to buy a few things to keep his health good.... after looking at that other members list, i was thinking of , PROBOTIC, MOULTING AID , and SOLUVET . would these be fine ? also, do i need to buy something for insects as hes inside most of the time ? Also, a pet shop told me i dont need to worm him as hes kept inside and theres no other birds around...is this true ? basically he gets fresh seed and water everyday. Peas and corn every couple of days. ( thats the only veggies he eats) and Millet on weekends... I just wanted to buy a few necessary supplements that will keep him in top notch shape. on to another topic. when i got him as a baby, before i clipped his wings, he used to fly around the lounge room doing several laps regularly.......his wings have grown back now, but he seems to have no interest in flying around . why is this. sometimes he does a short fly a few metres but thats it. nothing like before. why do budgies get all fluffed up when they are talking or excited ? whens hes on my hand and talking he get all fluffed up and spreads his tail feathers. last but not least. whats another name for the peppermint tree which bugies supposedly love. Is a wheeping willow the same as a peppermint tree. Im in adelaide and cant seem to find any. thanks Jason Edited November 17, 200816 yr by KAZ
November 16, 200816 yr :bliss: I just want to buy a few things to keep his health good.... after looking at that other members list, i was thinking of , PROBOTIC, MOULTING AID , and SOLUVET . would these be fine ? a single, non breeding budgie on a balanced diet of fresh seed and vegies doesn't normally need any further supplements Moulting aid could be good if he has troubles while moulting... but if he moults well then there is no need. also, do i need to buy something for insects as hes inside most of the time ? It's always good to look for external mites and lice on the feathers and body and treat accordingly Also, a pet shop told me i dont need to worm him as hes kept inside and theres no other birds around...is this true ? It's always good to worm at least once a year for a single bird. every 12 weeks is better, as even though they live alone there is always the possibility they came with worms from the breeder, and unless everything in the cage is completely sterolised, there is risk of reinfection. basically he gets fresh seed and water everyday. Peas and corn every couple of days. ( that's the only veggies he eats) and Millet on weekends... I just wanted to buy a few necessary supplements that will keep him in top notch shape.Add Silver beet, beetroot, carrots and brocoli. - 3-4 times a week on to another topic. when i got him as a baby, before i clipped his wings, he used to fly around the lounge room doing several laps regularly.......his wings have grown back now, but he seems to have no interest in flying around . why is this. sometimes he does a short fly a few metres but thats it. nothing like before. Budgies often dont fly well after their wings have been clipped as they loose muscle tone and get lazy. they get used to not flying so they often (but not always) take a while to get back into it. there is every possibillity his wings were clipped a little early and he hadn't developed his muscles properly. i always recomend clippeing after they have turned 9 weeks. why do budgies get all fluffed up when they are talking or excited ? whens hes on my hand and talking he get all fluffed up and spreads his tail feathers. That is just part of their flirting - notice they look cuter when they chatter. thats just a way to attract a mate last but not least. whats another name for the peppermint tree which bugies supposedly love. Is a wheeping willow the same as a peppermint tree. Im in adelaide and cant seem to find any. I also have trouble finding the peppermint gum. I thought i had some, but i now think its the wrong type so am still on the lookout! Edited November 16, 200816 yr by **Liv**
November 24, 200816 yr It is not the same as any regular willow, but the other name of Peppermint tree is Willow Myrtle, so this is where confusion could come from
