Posted November 15, 200816 yr Hi Here are the two soon-to-be parents: Storm; (Violet Spangle Opaline Clearflight Pied) Cinder; (a Mauve Normal/Recessive Pied, he's the one closest to the camera) Today Storm laid the first egg (of her second clutch)..so I'm going to make a breeding journal about this pair, hopefully I'll get some help with any problems I might run into on the way. I'll try to update it as much as possible. (ie, every day or so) So hang on, and soon we'll have more little eggies I hope! P.S.: Sorry about the not so great photos..they aren't the best ever taken of Storm and Cinder.
November 17, 200816 yr Author Storm has laid a total of three fertile eggs...and pushed all three out of the nest the day after she laid them. Ie, laid one, next day pushed it out of the nest, day after that laid another, day after that did it again..What could be causing this? She has laid 3 clutches (not in succession) and been fine with all three..and now this one she is doing this..What can I do? The drop from the nest to the floor is about 3 and 1/2 feet, so no eggs survive..Help
November 17, 200816 yr I would take the nestbox and and give her a very long break. She obviously doesnt want to be breeding right now.

I forgot to mention, but this probably also is why she's doing this..the lid of the nestbox (I have it on the top of the nest) was loose, though I didn't realize it..and it fell in on the nest..twice..Before I got it fixed..could that have been why she was throwing the eggs out? Because it stressed her out? Its fixed now so it won't happen again..
November 17, 200816 yr Well, she certainly would not have felt secure when that was happening. Are they the only ones in the aviary ?

November 19, 200816 yr Author Storm has laid an egg today. I haven't taken out the nestbox as of yet, because I still want to see if, because I've now fixed the roof, she'll settle down and continue laying..If she does chuck this egg out as well, I'll take out the nest and give her a long break. On the subject of her throwing this egg out...should I put a container with say, cotton wool in it, under the perch, so that when it falls it won't break? Then I could try to put it back under her...Should I try that, and if so, if she still rejects the egg what should I do with it?
