November 15, 200816 yr Author I had to crop feed one of my babies as she wasnt eating and was looking puffy and sleepy. What colour is your babies poos? is there any staining around the vent? Update: She's eating seeds just now..All it took was me actually putting her in the food dish (which was on the ground for her) and now she's eating like there's no tomorrow..I have her half-brother (different father, different clutch) in with her in hopes he may feed her or he would eat and encourage her to do the same..he didn't feed her, but he did eat some seed..and she got interested and ate with him. Maybe she'll continue to do so now she realizes she can eat the seeds..And yeah her keelbone is is sharp Kaz.. She wasn't puffed up at all except when she was sleeping..the rest of the time she just sat there, preened herself..And no staining around the vent at all Liv. Edited November 15, 200816 yr by Jen144
November 15, 200816 yr Be sure to check her crop before nighttime for signs of a full crop. Always check her bottom for signs of poopiness. A poopy bottom is signs of ill health but also in babies is a sign they arent eating enough to form a normal poop. Edited November 15, 200816 yr by KAZ

Good to hear Check her for feather mits too... Here is a link for what to look for ---> Here. the little mites can cause excess preening and stress and are barely noticeable unless you know what you are looking for.

Okay, I'll do that too..after she's been eating fine for about a week or two, do you think it would be fine to move her into the inside aviary I put the weaned babies in until they moult? I'll check for mites now Liv. Are they contagious? Ie, if she had them the nest and/or her parents may as well? Edited November 15, 200816 yr by Jen144 removed double quote
November 15, 200816 yr Yeah the mites are very contagious between birds. - had them through my flock a few months ago. if you find any, you need to treat everyone and all yuor cages, boxes and perches too - and real headache

I'm not sure if she has mites..can you just tell on their flight feathers, or on all their feathers? Because her flight feathers have markings on them that could be her normal markings or mites.. Edited November 15, 200816 yr by Jen144
November 15, 200816 yr The mites tend to be in the flight and tail feathers. They are easiest to see on a white feather... sometimes you can see them on the darker feathers. they sit between the feather bits (dont know what they are called hehe) so you will notice an inconsistency if they are there.

I'm still not completely sure whether or not the baby has mites..it wouldn't do any harm to treat them all for mites anyway would it?
November 15, 200816 yr not at all  - the mite spreys are very safe but if you treat, you need to clean the cage and treat any other birds who have contact with the baby as they will reinfect her (if she has them). they are transferred via close contact and loose feathers.

November 15, 200816 yr Author lol sorry to bother you all again, but I have one last question. The baby has been eating etc..but she has also been sleeping a lot. (a lot more than I'm used to with my other birds) Could this partly be because she is young, and also because she wasn't being fed very much recently? Or should I be worried about her sleeping a lot.. A lot=whenever she isn't eating, she's sleeping, pretty much. Edited November 15, 200816 yr by Jen144
November 15, 200816 yr Babies sleep a lot more than adults. She should still have short periods of play and eating time, then back to nap time again. My babies are all 5 weeks old and have big bursts of energy for about 30-60 mins, then its back to nap time hehe. Keep and eye on her as you are, if she starts to look fluffed up then you know there is a problem. a baby all on its own would be quieter than one who has playmates too.

I will continue to keep an eye on her..so don't be suprised if I come back with more questions.
