Budgie Training

hi there,

I have a 5 week old baby budgie at the moment who is flying around all the time and is starting to eat. I was just wondering if anyone knew how i could train it to be able to come outside with me and not flyaway. Is this possible?

Also it is 6 weeks old next monday when could i seperate it from mum and dad?

I would never take a bird clipped or unclipped outside, the bigger birds can have harness and leashes.

okay then,

Also it has blue around its nostrils on its cere and then pink is this a girl or boy

Not truly, hens can also display a light blue cere too. Also some mutations of budgies keep the pink cere for life. We have information on this in the FAQ's .

If you would like to post a picture that would be best and the instructions on posting a picture are in the FAQ under the Welcome Section. You can post the picture in the Forum called "what sex is my budgie"

  • 4 weeks later...

You can separate him from his parents about 2 weeks after he is out of the nest, by then he will have learnt to eat by himself.
