Prince, Spangle Or Pied

Featured Replies

A few months ago i had a topic discussing my spangle that was born with plum eyes, it had a light blue suffusion on its chest and i was told it was common for df spangles to have a light suffusion. Now he is just finishing his first moult and the blue is fading in areas and he is looking like a pied now. could he be a pied then or a badly marked spangle?

Thanks for the explanation, it was just all one colour when he was younger so i was just wondering what it meant with it changing.

Dek, just put in the Ino Mutations one of his birds that is very similar but an ino, I questioned him on the color of the eyes and it is red so it is an ino.

SO question Deb where either of the spangles pied? Why could it not be a Double Factor Pied Spangle and the suffision is coming through pied? If it was pied it would be a Clearflight because there is no banding.

If there is no pied gene involved then it is just suffision and as MB said can be blotchy.

id say its just suffusion, it can be a pied without banding as such. Most pieds in aus are varigated pied not banded pieds.

In varigated do you mean recessive pied? If it was recessive pied the iris rings would not show.

I think it's just suffusion on a double factor spangle but the DF spangle could be masking something else that is showing through. If it was born with red eyes then the DF spangle is probably masking cinnamon, which doesn't account for the blotchiness. If there is another mutation present it must be either dominant or clearflight pied because if it was recessive pied there would be no iris rings

Elly- variegated as in the dom pied patches can be anywhere most dom pieds are lke this, banded pieds have thesymmetrical band evenly across the belly. I have birds bred from varigated pieds that show an even belly band but they are still varigated. Ive got a few pics that show it.

Recessive pied is recessive pied but dom pied can be varigated (most) with patches and clear flight feathers, banded (apparently not alot around) proper band and clear flights, or clearflight pied- just clear flights
