Posted November 10, 200816 yr Not sure if I have given this the right heading, am new to the world of Breeding. Here is my query. 1. As I am just starting to have my own bred Hens & Cocks ready to mate, I am wondering if to establish a blood line, I need to establish more than 2 bloodlines. I have had good success with my orginal matings, so will I put those Hens & Cocks together to raise more stock. 2. With the ones ready to be paired would I benefit by bringing in another pair to mate with the newby's gaining another 2 bloodlines. Would this be enough to spread the bloodlines within the Aviary. I can't have a big selection of birds, as I do not have the room to house them, and don't laugh 50 would be the absolute maximum. 3. Will my Albinos be able to be mated, if so what do I need to look for when pairing.
November 10, 200816 yr It is very difficult to stop at 50 birds because the tempation to retain another and another is very strong. Every breeder has their own ideas on what works best but the most important thing is to keep good records of your birds so that sound decisions on pairing can be made. With only a relatively small number of birds it would be difficult to maintain many separate lines and you probably will need to import partners sometimes. Some breeders are cautious about pairing albinos together but if the birds have good points these can be enhanced in the same way as the good points on any other mutation

You are a doll and sound as if you could have the same ideas as me with breeding. You of course have more knowledge of what you are talking about, I only have a dream that I am trying to fulfill, and guess really that I would call my birds a hobby where I am hoping to acheive birds that are not inbreed, and prove to myself that anyone if they put there mind to it, can breed responsibily. My little Thor has Dark Brown Wings. November 11, 200816 yr Is Thor YF or has he been eating vegies?? Neville is an expert on genetics. He amazes me with his knowledge. Nothing seems to stump him. Like he said, some breeders don't like breeding ino to ino because they tend to be smaller birds. I'm not sure how Creamino's work but I'm guessing if paired with a blue they would produce more yf's... The thing I love about breeding research is that the possibilities are endless. I look forward to seeing your breeding journey take shape!
November 11, 200816 yr I have heard ino to ino makes a smaller bird too, but I have 2 pairs with eggs at the moment, so it will be interesting to see their outcomes - for me anyway
November 11, 200816 yr JB with that picture he looks white face Yes ino to ino is not recommended what is recommended is ino to normal split to ino . Violets and Recessive Pieds also tend to be smaller birds too.

Since my first Budgie I have given vegetables etc to them. they do have space between days, so I guess 4 out of 7 days.
