Posted November 8, 200816 yr HI there, AT the moment my budgie has five 4-5 week old baby budgies, this is about the fourth time she has bred. I was hoping that when she finished with this clutch i would take them out of the breeding aviary into a different one with no breeding boxes. Well she has laid yet another egg so if i separate the male from the female will the male be able to look after the babies for another 1-2 weeks or not. What should i do? November 8, 200816 yr Take out the female and remove her to an aviary he cannot see, and preferably not hear her. give her some alone time and the chance to rebuild her strength before she returns to an aviary. The cock can finish raising the young birds on his own at that age
November 8, 200816 yr Author okay so if i put the female in an inside cage for about a week until the babies have been raised then can put her in to the aviary or would i have to wait longer Edited November 8, 200816 yr by maesie
November 8, 200816 yr You should not have allowed her to breed four clutches. Dont put her anywhere that there is nestboxes.

If she has raised four rounds she needs some long service leave! I assume from your earlier post that you have a breeding flight and a non-breeding flight. I would be putting her in a non-breeding flight and letting her have lots of flying time as soon as you think she is fit enough and once the chicks are feeding themselves so that the cock bird doesn't get distracted from that important job. Like Kaz said - four rounds is too many. Kaz must have posted her message while I was still putting this one together. Jaz
November 8, 200816 yr You can put her back in the aviary once the dad has finished raising the babies as long as you remove the nest boxes first
