I have a pair of budgies and i want them to breed. I have them in an indoor cage with no other birds around. Will they breed?

Opal :)

i would think so if the conditions are right and if they are male and female.

yes they will but please ensure you do some research first

why do you want to breed Opal?

Do you want lots of baby budgies or do you have people wanting to home them?

I would hate the responsiblity of producing birds and having to find good homes for them. I wouldn't be able to sell to just anyone.

First time i bred was with a single pair and a modified shoe box as the nesting box. I got 2 healthy and happy babies!!!

ive got 2 healthy pairs of budgies and ive seperated them both from the other pair put them in 1 of their old cages with a next box.. and nothing no mating nothing... any ways to get them to breed?

Just a problem.... Bonnie(now Bon-bon) is a male(I HATE recessive Pieds).

I'm going to get two hens to breed with. As to the Why I want to breed, I just love the cute things, we're getting an aviary so I've got them a home.

Ah, dear...they will breed if conditions are right. That is how I ended up with so many in my living room. If you plan on keeping all the babies, how will you prevent inbreeding once they are all in the aviary?

I prevent this by separating them into the pairs i want during breeding time. :) I do however get brother - sister interest. ;)

Blah Blah Blah. The nearest "Rescue Centre" is about 500 Kms away.

That wasn't the whole point of that link. It also talked about responsible breeding. Read it. Read *something.*

If you refuse to research you have no place breeding. The end.

Exactly what I was going to do. I may also sell some. There is also a couple in town that we get to mind our Budgies while we are away and they've fallen In love with them so we might give them some too.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude, but I can stop them breeding if I want to, can't I?

Dear Devvle,

I re-read this post again, and I think I need to say sorry properly to you. It was really rude and arrogant. I didn't mean to sound that way, and I do appreciate you going to the trouble of sending me that link. I will do a lot more research before I try to breed - I love my budgies and I want them to be okay.

Sorry,

Opal :)

It's okay. I'm glad you're going to research breeding more. I think you'll find it really interesting and the more you know the more enjoyable it's going to be. Less unpleasant surprises that way.

I'm sure some of the breeders here will be happy to give you advice as well. I wish I had a book to recommend but I've never gone into breeding. I'm sure if you look hard enough and ask around you'll find a good one though.

Research is the best thing you can do between now and Spring!!! That way you'll be prepared for whatever results you may get!!!

Hey guys i'm new to site. I have one pair of budgies (dark blue hen and light blue cock). She has laid 2 eggs so far and expecting the third sometime today. I have to check the first egg in a couple of days to see if it's fertile. I was wondering if it's possible for thier offspring to be any other color other than blue.

You will get blue babies from blue parents. You may get an albino and there are so many different types of blue, i've breed 10 babies from blue parents and only 2 have been the same colour. :bluebudgie: :bluebudgie:

Thaks you for the info. We now have 5 eggs. I was worried about them not being fertile because everytime I saw him try to mount her, she wouldn't let him. This as I was going off for work I caught them in the act. That eased my worries a little. :D

Most budgies don't make a public display of "the act".

Try telling that to my Bonnie and Jeeves. Budgie **** stars in the making. Preferably when we sit down to dinner! :D

Well....i did say most! Me and my friend were the aciddental audience of a budgie group "love session". It was pretty funny! :(Laughing out loud):

(Laughing out loud), i have been an audience to about 200 'love sessions' even a guy bird and a leaf....omg it was hilarious, he loved this leaf, and the other guys came near him, he scared them off, as if to say "shes mine" hehehe

(Laughing out loud) i notice the male 'hypnotises' the female and then when they arent hypnotised they shoo the male away?? hmmm weird

Well i think females prefer to be secretive about things. Males on the other hand just want to get going.
