Coco is my boy budgie who is about eleven months old now. He has always been a bit of a flirt with everything - even with the bars on his cage :happy-dancing: But lately he has been regurgitating more and more onto his toys - even when they are changed around. To the point when he will just sit there and do it for ages. I have taken his favourite toy out, but he has just moved straight onto the next thing.

 

I have tried giving him longer sleep, but as we work quite long hours, if I try to give him more sleep, I will never get to play with him - he has been difficult to bond with. At the moment he gets at least 8 hours.

 

I am planning on getting another baby boy budgie because Coco is by himself all day, do you think this behaviour will change when he has a friend with him? Or do some just do this more than others?

8 hours of cover time is not enough, they need regularly at least 10-12 and you could increase it to 12-14 to see if this behavior stops over the next week.

 

Getting another budgie may or may not stop the behavior, budgies do regurgitate with other budgies it is a form of bondng and if you get a baby then he will probably be the one doing it because the baby will either ask for it and because it is the younger of the 2.

 

When you get your new one remember to quarantine.

 

I would work on the cover time here though because it is not long enough.

My suggestion for the cover time is that maybe you can decide which end of the day you would rather spend playing with him (before work or after).. and then cover him longer on the other end. like if you decide you want to play with him after work, then keep his cage covered in the morning all the way until just before you leave, or vice versa.

I have started to increase Coco's cover time so hopefully that will change his behaviour
