January 6, 200916 yr Author What is the coffin for? Is it for the egg? I may have missed something somewhere. I am not sure about splayed legs -- the only one I ever had with a splayed leg was a lot worse than yours. But if anything, that photo makes the first one's legs look worse than the second?? I hope someone can tell you whether it's enough to worry about or not, I know it's definitely not as bad as the one I had, and we even tried splinting her legs and stuff and hers was worse than yours even after that, so yours is probably nothing. My daughter was sad that the last egg did not get to hatch, thus the coffin. She had been watching and waiting... I have only ever seen baby budgie photo's on here so I am not sure at all about the splayed legs, have P.M.'d Kaz as I think she has the expertise to help. Hopefully nothing like you say.
January 6, 200916 yr Well the one we had with the splayed leg really only had one very splayed leg, so she got around okay. She could climb around with her good leg and her beak, and she tended to stand on a perch so that her sticking out leg could hold onto the side of the cage. I think it would be very hard if both legs had been as badly splayed, and yours still look like functional legs anyway, and there's a good chance that it's just baby chubbiness that makes it look a bit splayed in the pics. Best of luck with them and I am looking forward to seeing them with feathers!
January 7, 200916 yr very cute , doesn't look splayed in the picture- think she just has skinny chicken legs
January 7, 200916 yr YAY! gorgeous pair! congrats. on the egg! quick question for Kaz, I've got one of those water things, but i keep freaking and taking it out cos i can't tell if my bird is using it.. should i just leave it in there?.. I'll know if my birds not drinking right?
January 7, 200916 yr You will rarely see your birds drink. Think of it like this - -birds have to put their heads down to drink. In the wild this makes them vulnerbale, so they will not do it when there is another animal around - namely you in this case
January 9, 200916 yr Author Unfortunately this little one passed away today, it had not grown much in the last few days. The others are looking strong and fit and mum and dad are doing a great job. Chick 4 (6 days old) T.C.B.
January 10, 200916 yr Author Just a photo update: Mum and dad (please excuse the corn and carrott faces!) and mummy keeping a very close eye on her nest!: Chick 1: Chick 2: Chick 3:

I am looking foward to seeing the TCB feather up fully I am really so pleased, I am terribly lucky for a first timer. I truly love what I am doing and it is great to see them grow before my eyes! Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you like the thread. Trish :budgiedance:
January 18, 200916 yr You could be able to take a guess from now, but does anyone know if TCB and albinos are harder to sex than other types? It helps having more than one - if you can see them next to each other and one cere looks really pink and the other looks white, then the white one is probably a girl at least. I'm not sure what age you can tell with absolute certainty... some are easy from young and some are more ambiguous for longer.
January 27, 200916 yr Author I just looked in the nest box and there was nobody in there  All three chicks are snooping around for foor under the watchful eyes of mummy and daddy, very cute! I will take some pics later, but it is a hard to keep them still at the moment!
January 28, 200916 yr Author Seeing as they have all fledged I have removed the nestbox, it is just far too hot at this time of year to encourage any more breeding. Does anyone see this as being a problem?

Fledged as far as I am concerned only applies if they have all their feathers. Until they are fully feathered I would leave the nestbox and keep putting back the ones who arent fully feathered........re sexes...post clear picture of each cere and I will help. PS watch in case its the mum who is pushing the chicks out. If this is the case and the Dad is a good feeder, AND you are worried about another clutch...remove the Mum and let dad finish raising the chicks. Edited January 28, 200916 yr by KAZ

Chicks are fully feathered, but the opposite is happening mum keeps making them go back into the nestbox! I don't mind putting it back but as the other lot of rescue chiks are doing well I thought it would be o.k?
January 28, 200916 yr Author All good then HA ! I just put it back! Maybe I'll wait a few more days...
